I have my own question though, does anyone know if it's possible to get the service tag from a specific machine they have for sale? For example, some Precision laptops have multiple versons of 1920x1080 screens (220nit vs 400nit, low vs high gamut, etc), but those specs are never listed - anyway to get that info before ordering? (_after_ you order, you get the service tag, but not before)
From my own experience and others on SD, your experience may be hit or miss. Both machines I bought from them were defective (one had a bad hinge, the other a bad fan) and got returned to them. Also, there have been reports about their grade evaluations being a bit optimistic at times, and refusing full refunds based strictly on the appearance not matching the description (so the buyer is responsible for return shipping and a restocking fee).
I'll keep your comments in mind regarding the substandard refurbishing reported about Dell lately.

dellrefurbished.com is generally off-lease systems that are generally at least 3-4 generations old (for example, the newest Precision systems are 11th gen Intel CPUs at the moment, though I've seen one or two 12th gen over the past few days)

The order confirmation came from dellrefurbished.com in 2017.
I don't think there's any way to determine the Dell service tag prior to purchasing and receiving the product.
What you noted has been my experience as well. They only list the most basic display information in the device specs including only resolution and touchscreen. E.g., FHD 1920x1080 display or FHD 1920x1080 touchscreen .
The way I try to determine the laptop display quality is to 1) google the model configuration options sheet 2) narrow down the possible display configurations for that model 3) decide if the lowest quality display option in that group is acceptable.
E.g., for the Precision 7550 I bought recently, they labeled it "Dell Precision 7550 Touch" and said it had a 1920x1080 screen.
I googled "precision 7550 spec sheet filetype:pdf" (exactly). A few pages down they list all possible configuration options, including displays. The only possible 1920x1080 and touchscreen options was the display panel "15-inch, FHD, 1920 x 1080, 60 Hz, Touch, 100% DCIP3,500 Nits, WVA". See attached screenshot.
