If you even suspect that Straight Talk might cancel your order do not use PayPal for payment.
Straight Talk canceled my order but never refunded my payment. 4 calls to Straight Talk and one month later and I still had no refund. They actually told me that I had to take it up with PayPal. So I did. And then I had to wait a few weeks more while PayPal investigated. I got my refund but Straight Talk sat on my money that whole time.

The phone will automatically unlock after 60 days even if you don't renew your plan after 30 days.

WM has a contracted cell team at most stores and they get the job done. The only info I gave them was a zip code I wanted for a new number. It was a 10 minute deal. He also gave me an activation number printout along with the receipt if there was any issues. I got home, opened the sealed box and saw the signal bars, made a call and working fine. Compare that to my previous online purchase, going to pick up, getting home and it would not activate as it was not activated on the Straighttalk system. Returned it.
Thanks
Going to try next week. Hopefully I have no issues.

I actived my Straight talk A16 5G last week, text "unlock" to 611611, it says "great news, your phone is already eligible to be unlocked", dial #83865625#, it says connection problem or invalid mmi codes.
Anybody has the same problem?

Also, when I turn the phone on, the logo is Verizon, is that normal?

In the phone setting, can't find the sim card unlock status.

I didn't try to insert other carriers sim card to the phone to check unlock status because not sure if that will effect unlocking.

Do you know how to check A16 unlock status?

Thank you.

The phone will say Verizon even after unlocked so it's normal.

To check if the phone is unlocked:
1. Settings
2. Connections
3. More connection settings
4. Look at network lock status. If it says unlocked, it is unlocked.

I checked more connection settings. It is locked.

Do you know why I dial #83865625#, it says "connection problem or invalid mmi codes". Does that effect automatic unlocking after 60 days?

Thank you.

There's no reason to expect the phone to unlock after 1 week after activation. See posts #1 and #2 for guidance.

The Moto G Power 5G 2024 has 8GB and has dual SIM (pSIM and eSIM), which makes it a decent phone at this price. However Motorola provides limited upgrades, usually a year of OS and 2 years of security updates. Samsung A16 5G is supposed to receive 6 years of updates (OS and security).
Is anyone really considering using this phone for 6 years? One year on a disposable cheap phone is plenty.

I agree. Plus a couple year's security updates is not nothing. Most Android updates are worthless, too. And it's always good to have a(t least one) spare unlocked phone. I'm still using my 2020 G Power right now. And anyone here on SD is likely a multi-phone owner anyway.

Yes true. I main a iPhone 15PM 1Tb. Picked up an unlocked straighttalk iPhone 13 128. And bought the Total Verizon A35 for access to the Galaxy store coupons. As long as this phone can run Genshin Impact to access the Galaxy store I'm good.

They say a third of Americans have less than $100 in their savings account. Some of these Americans will still spend $500+ on a new phone every year or two to keep up with their peers/friends. However there is probably a large segment of this population who keep their phones for 4+ years or until it dies. They are not necessarily the typical SD audience.

I guess I ordered too many phones. Straight Talk cancelled my order mid-shipment and requested UPS return to sender. I charged on PayPal. In hindsight probably not the best thing to do. Anyone have similar experience? I am assuming I will get a refund since I never received the phone but given the comments here, I am not sure. Has this happened to anyone? Is the refund automatic after Straight Talk receives the phone or do I need to file a claim with PayPal/credit card? Thanks in advance.

I've just ordered the phone. Had a bit of an issue ordering it. Had to use incognito mode and login as guest. I will be using it as my backup phone with my authenticator apps copied over from my primary phone. Will have the same google voice phone number as my primary phone, a Google Pixel 7. Having Android security updates until Oct 2030 is a big selling point. I am planning to keep it for that long. I had an issue with a Motorola G Power phone with its battery bloating big enough to crack open the case. Hopefully it won't happen with this budget Samsung phone.

Thank you. And, yes TinierCrowd890 please post a link as *this* is the phone/plan I need.

It seems to be in store only. My Experience was similar to everyone else's, you go in and talk to the cell team, they get you set up (ask name, email no id req.)
Sim Is pre-installed
I haven't really used the device as my plan to install a custom ROM was thwarted by Samsung's locked bootloader but am curious and currently testing to see if it is carrier unlockable after 2 months alike straight talk.
Walmart's website lists it as carrier locked but am not too confident.

I actived Straight talk A16 5G last week. Will that phone be able to be unlocked automatically after 60 days if I port the number out now?

Thank you.
