Patagonia is like the Hollister or Abercrombie & Fitch when I was a kid. If you are really an outdoors person they do make good gear, most buyers aren't not is my guess.
I am a constantly outdoors person and I get their stuff because it actually holds up. And when it doesn't they'll fix it. I have a daily use sweatshirt from them I've worn for over 10 years and it's still in nearly perfect shape.. Their clothing holds up to abuse, cleaning, CAT CLAWS, it's honestly amazing.

I used to get adidas or similar sweatshirt type layers and never get more than a year out of them. Elbows blow out, zippers break, wrists blow out, etc etc. Extra cost is worth it to me to avoid having to buy the same thing 3 or 4 times over the same timespan. Buy on clearance & the difference isn't too bad.

I don't get the "fashion" bit, pata stuff is almost always butt ugly. Hard to find colorways that aren't making you look like a star trek extra. But so it goes.

The fashion part of it is the ability to show other people you are wearing expensive stuff. It's a status symbol. An ugly one, but a status symbol nonetheless.

I like Patagonia as a company, but their bags just feel so cheap. I get that it's ripstop and for weight, but even the straps are just.... cheap. I picked up one of their day hiking backpacks and returned it. These aren't worth $100 to me.

Just paid $27 more from Patagonia on sale for one of these after waiting for a slick deal for a while. Now I guess we'll have two.
I did the same but returned my Patagonia order since there is a Patagonia store near me.

The reason you use a duffel is because maximizes weight and space within carry on restrictions. It also always fit in any overhead bins since it's conformable. That's especially useful for someone who doesn't like to check luggage (like me).

My only complaint with these bags is that the entire thing is PU coated except the bottom. Whats the point of having a waterproof top and sides if the bottom if cloth.. any wet environment (rain, snow, etc) is going to result in wet stuff..

I use a big 75L for a ski bags to carry helmets, gloves, water, etc and at the end of the day you have to be careful where you place the bag to avoid puddles/wet carpet in the lodge.

Much prefer my arcteryx duffle as the whole thing is weatherproof.
I have to give a second on this. What is the point of having no waterproofing the BOTTOM - you know the spot most likely to be set into a puddle, wet area, etc. Which means it is $100 for the name. Definitely not a slick deal.
