It's weird that it doesn't have a sub out jack, which means getting bass from the 4" "woofers" or forking out another $600-700 for a wireless sub. I'm a component HT guy, is this common for sound bars?

Yes its rare for most soundbars to have a sub line at all, Klipsch Flexus is the only one immediately that comes to mind as even offering that feature. Sound bars tend to be proprietary to their manufacture and initial kit, we're just now slowly seeing expansion to "add on subs or rears wirelessly" for top end bars.

Yeah, a lot of folks dont want a sub cable running across the room, and for soundbar room eq, a lot of companies have a basic EQ catered specifically to their subwoofer tuning so they dont want 3rd party subs to be compatible. Klipsch is the only one that lets you because they're using DIRAC now for their flagship.

Can anyone comment how this is 7.1.4 when it has 4 drivers and 2 woofers? I was debating getting one for the garage but it seems like a marketing gimmick and doesn't appear to have a center channel either.

Marketing in this case and they call it 7.1.4 (virtual surround)

People pay this much for a sound bar with no sub out? $800 MSRP? Ridiculous.

Some people pay this much for just a center speaker with no sub out. As mentioned in other posts, this supports a proprietary sub, just like 95% of other soundbars.

This is not a good deal IMO. It's a 4.1 channel bar that's ridiculously overpriced. For a small soundbar Rtings.com highly recommends Sonos Beam Gen2. It's their #1 pick for for small sound bars. It's a 5.0 channel sound bar so it actually has a center channel. I picked one up open box at Best Buy last year for $270 and it's fantastic. Right now the sale on Beam Gen 2 is only a $100 off so open box excellent is $315, not as low as it was last year. Sale last year was a bit better and open box prices were also lower.

Open box Beam Gen 2 at Best Buy: https://www.bestbuy.com/product/s...=excellent

Edit: The more I looked into this bar, the more I'm confident this is not a good deal at all. Sonos Beam Gen 2 beats it in every single category in rtings review. Beam has a dedicated center channel for clear dialogue in shows, this bar does not. So dialogue is gonna get mixed into the stereo speakers. And advertising it as 7.1.4 "virtual" is really shady marketing. Even though this bar technically has woofers, its bass isn't any better than Sonos Beam. Both bars are on sale for $400 new, why would you buy an inferior product over Sonos Beam when it costs the same?

This is common misconception, you have to look at it correctly.

A soundbar is tech/algorithm based system but you're trying to define it as a speaker based system.

It's an apples n oranges comparison.
These are for people that prioritize convenience/aesthetics, you do sacrifice quality though.

Not sure a garage setting is what this was designed for but if it works for you, that's all that matters.

Not sure why people bother adding(or try to) an actual sub to soundbars.
The content will not take advantage of its performance capabilities.

Dirac wouldn't help either especially since the Dirac offered on that Klipsch will not offer sub correction/integration.
This is false on all accounts

Soundbars can still benefit from subwoofers as content can pass at crossover frequency to the subwoofer. By adding a subwoofer a systems max SPL and distortion will be improved greatly as amplifier power no longer needs to be allocated to drive bass frequencies on the soundbar.

DIRAC offered by Klipsch will benefit just being generally a better room correction out of the box than most room correction software's from manufactures. Dirac not only does conventional room EQ correction and adjusts to conventional room curves, but it handles mixed-phase filtering to improve room audibility.

Secondly Klipsch does confirm that like all DIRAC suite products. It comes w/ Dirac Limited bandwidth out of the box to EQ down to 500hz. After that there is the option to purchase add-ons like DIRAC Live Bass Control turning it from limited response to full range bandwidth since it will be compatible w/ 3rd party subwoofer integration

You have to look at the details to understand RTings ratings. While they state a higher rating its generally based on subjective numbers and their test methods are only what they think works for soundbar. If you look at the difference in the more common objective measurements you'll see why the Sennheiser products tend to be more expensive because their implementation is designed to be very decent out of the box w.o addons.

Beam 2 Max SPL is 88.8 dB SPL (This is fine but not loud enough for movies typically, will need subwoofer to achieve higher peak SPL)

Ambeo Max SPL 94.7 dB SPL (About 2x louder at peak dynamic range, also not crazy loud but starting to be on the side of loud enough for movies )

Ambeo bar response is also a lot more linear *(objectively more ideal) and the Beam 2 has a cutoff at 16khz while the Sennheiser gets full range extension all the way to 20khz

This bar doesn't even have center channel for dialogue. There's no way anybody in their right mind buys this "7.1.4" channel bar for $800 msrp. These compact bars are meant for small areas where you don't have much space. I use beam in my small bedroom and it's plenty loud to where I usually have it below 50% and I don't get any distortion. I can see where it may struggle in a living room though. I like Sennheiser, I own 2 pairs of their headphones, but this ain't it IMO.

EDIT: I can see an argument for this bar if you buy it strictly for music in a bigger area than a bedroom.
