Also shows 10% cash back (extra 5% than usual) with Amazon prime visa card. YMMV.

But having said that, this is a huge hit or miss depending on the kind of unit one gets. A yellowish tint is a major issue reported and I got the same with my unit last time. Ended up returning it rather than replacement. Based on reviews on Amazon, there are users with up to 5 units being replaced because of the same issue and finally returning. A lot of potential hassle and time expense. Again, YMMV
Don't think I've seen a Kindle device get such low ratings at 3.1 stars.
Fwiw, I had a rep who let me keep my kindle scribe and its replacement due to the light leakage problem prominent on the devices. They said I didn't have to send either back and offered a discount on my original purchase price. Make sure you at least ask for something to make the hassle worth your while

No they have always been good about returns and word is it was actually just making adjustments to the firmware.
You cannot fix glue behind the screen with firmware. What they did, in firmware, is to change the default screen color to match the glue stain so now it's all fixed... right? Smilie

Glue behind the screen requires it to cure and that was supposed to have corrected itself with use.

That makes no sense, the screen is not yellow at all.

If you look at it next to a paperwhite you will see the yellow tint. It's very very light but it's there. The point is that they masked a defect and lied to us saying they fixed it in the firmware. Well technically they did change the firmware but not to fix the issue but hide it.

I still think it's a good product but I'll not pay full price for something with a defect, especially since the next version will not have this defect and will probably cost less if they can get a color screen at 300ppi thus not needing two screens, one on top of another.

I looked at it next to a scribe, it has no yellowing on my copy.

I hope they fixed it then or you got lucky. They do say it takes a few months to show but I'll keep my fingers crossed that they fixed it.

Maybe, I bought it like 2 weeks ago, so it is a good sign.

The way these work is really ingenious. The film on the screen does all the color work and the Kindle just acts like a backlight. https://youtu.be/JNF5R11mX-8?si=SYc_U4hGvGsWMGiO

No the way it works is that they place a 150ppi color screen on top of a 300ppi b/w screen and the top color screen only is used if the book has color on the page and then only for the color part.

This is why the screen for b/w is less sharp because there is a second screen on top of it.

The only reason they do this now is because they cannot produce a 300ppi color kindle screen and they know that people would not accept a downgrade from the now standard 300ppi back to 150ppi.

Once they are able to technically produce a color 300ppi screen there will be no reason for having two screens. I'll wait for the 300ppi color screen.

Maybe we are explaining the same thing. The "color screen" is a film on top of the black and white made up of clear, red, green, and blue pixels. There is no backlight and there is no way to control the amount of light passing through. There is only one technology here, eink. But it isn't a color eink screen. It does not use colored inks. It's... A passive color screen?

To give way too much technical information, a screen is a backlight, a color filter, and a way to block or open up the light to pass through. E ink floats black or white inks to the top. For LCDs that is a color filter with some white light source from behind. This technology treats the white particles as the backlight (reflected ambient light) and has a color filter but can only block light via the dark eink capsules. That they managed to get 150PPI RGB out of this is pretty awesome.

Mine has yellow band on the bottom. It's light, but noticeable. Amazon is sending me a replacement, and I'm hoping it'll be okay! I don't want to keep exchanging.

Don't hold your breath. I bought a launch one and have the yellow tint at the bottom. They gave me till November 2025 to exchange it. I've learned to live with it. I doubt this gets fixed since it's been months of this.

Got a new one and it still looks the same.
