Wasn't there recent news about cybersecurity vulnerabilities in TP-Link routers and discussions about them potentially being banned due to their use in botnets or something similar?
Beware if you have an older deco unit with parental controls if you upgrade to this unit or any other newer setup they only give you basic limited controls. They want you to now pay for the "advanced features" you had in your older deco's that were free.
I posted this when I was at the warehouse by copying text from image. I would still blame it on AI though.

Any comment on if it can be turned into dumb APs and still have the mesh capability (assuming 802.11s) working?
I have a separate router and use these in 'Access Point' mode (instead of the default 'Wi-Fi Router' mode) and it has been working very well. Just bought another 3 units with this deal to further extend the network.

I've used TP-Link Deco for over two years with good coverage in my 2,200 sq. ft. home, but the 2.4GHz radios were a nightmare for my 50+ IoT devices—constant disconnects, slow response, and frequent reboots. TP-Link support provided a custom firmware that improved things but didn't fully fix the issues. The biggest downside is the lack of advanced controls like channel selection, TX power, and roaming settings. I finally switched to Linksys Velop AX5300 with OpenWRT, giving me full control and way better stability. TP-Link Deco is fine for basic users with minimal IoT, but not great for smart home enthusiasts.

Purchased (for $250) and installed the AEX5300 in the beginning of January. My limited experience has been positive. Was able to find it for $200 at Costco yesterday. Bought and returned it to recoup $50 difference since I was past the 30 day price adjustment period.

Wow I hadn't noticed this. Really liked those features. I'll be looking for a new router I suppose.

I got these after a standard netgear router wasn't cutting it for the gaming needs of the kids upstairs. This was a pleasant surprise, the satellites not only extend range more than the previous router but wired from the satellite provides near wired speeds despite off a satellite. I think it's because it's using the unused WiFi 6 channel between the satellites then wired to their computer. Anyways, it works and it works fast.

I have this set I got from Costco about 1.5 years ago. My main network at home is on fiber and uses Ubiqiti access points but, I use this with T-Mobile home internet as a backup network and, I can say, these routers have been rock solid and have functioned flawlessly. Signal works good across our entire household, I never seem to need to reboot them, and they do seem to push out updates on a semi-frequent basis. I can't speak to the whole China/security thing but, otherwise, I have been 100% happy with the performance of these.

There is v1 and v2 of this product as well. I think with V1 like I have they were very prone to having the top port go bad. All 3 of mine have bad ports. But that kind of forced me over to getting a real router, Opnsense. I still use these as wifi access points.
