I use the dot email trick and have had 4 memberships so far…so if your email is [email protected] for the next time just use [email protected] and the 3rd time [email protected] etc etc basically any combination of periods will make Sam's club (and most places) believe its a different email address, but the email still goes to your normal gmail
I have been 'renewing' Sam's club membership every year for $20 (or lower in the past. This year we moved to a city with Costco so I got Costco membership and let Sam's Club membership expire. After a few trips to Costco, I bought Sam's Club again.

Costco is just too crowded for comfort. First parking is a pain and then you have to navigate your cart through hordes. And then finally check out lines are huge. It's just crazy. Sam's club has fewer people and so shopping is MUCH faster. And scan and go is awesome. My wife just refuses to step into Costco now. We figured $20 extra per year for Sam's Club is worth the peace of mind.

We'll probably still keep Costco. $60 is a lot but even one big ticket item a year makes up for it. So we'll keep Costco for major purchases and online ordering. Overall 'deals' are definitely better at Costco. But we'll use Sam's club for regular weekend groceries. Like I said, $20 extra just to avoid the crazy Costco rush is worth it.
I agree 100%. We have both, but I avoid Costco whenever possible. We keep it only because one of the eyeglass prescriptions in our family has a surcharge at places like Zenni, so getting the lenses for $50 at Costco (plus a second pair for "free" with just the cost of frames) ends up breaking even with the membership cost. There are one or two things Costco regularly sells that is a good price (3lbs of chia seeds for like $9 is one) that helps. Kirkland toilet paper is still the pre-pandemic width, so I buy that. We only drive EVs these days, so waiting in line for Costco's "top-tier" gas isn't a benefit for us.

All three Costcos around us are a zoo. The Scan & Go at Sam's is amazing, I can't believe anyone puts up with lines. And a hill that I will die on is that Costco's food sucks compares to Sam's. We have been to all three; my kids hate their pizza and their hot dogs suck (and no sauerkraut!). Froyo is twice as much as Sam's (and it's the same stuff). I don't think you can order food from the Costco app like you can with Sam's; it's nice to just walk up and get my food without waiting in line.

I just don't get the Costco cult following. Like most places, you only save money on some things and they make it up on overpricing others. Their return policy is generous, I'll give them that, but so was REI's before it was abused enough that they had to crack down on it.

Quick note: Costco has gone up to $65 for their standard membership, so it's no longer $60.

The Groupon deal is the same price and is valid until March 25, 2025 https://www.groupon.com/deals/n-s...ackages-17
Thank you for this, I don't love the idea of congruent memberships and this is much closer to my renewal date

Top tier gas is a marketing scam because no one has publicly published what chemical/concentration is needed to qualify for top tier status. No spec and no regulation translate to marketing fluff. That's why car manufacturers cannot deny warranty claim due to the lack of top tier fuel because this line of reasoning does not hold up in court. Some poorly designed engines like VW will have excessive carbon deposit, regardless of the fuel. 1985 Toyota Celica uses a 22RE engine with port fuel injection. The intake valves and combustion area don't look much different than those on a 2008 Toyota Corolla because they burn at 14.7 ratio and don't consume excessive amount of engine oil.The integrity of the mass air flow sensor and air intake path after the mass air flow sensor have much greater influence on the engine than top tier fuel. And yet most people don't do anything until the check engine light comes on.Bottom line is all gasoline sold in the US meets federal and mfr warranty requirement. The performance of a Toyota/Denso oil filter is vastly inferior to a Mobil 1 oil filter. Yet most Toyotas have no problem hitting 200K miles with Fram or no-name oil filters.
Same blah, blah BS. Nobody claimed here that they have done studies to show that their engines run cleaner using costco top tier gas. It is what they sell and some people seem to like it. I have a membership there for just the fuel and the bagels. If they did not sell top tier gas or branded as one, then I would ask them to shove their membership. They have ceased to be a value for me (again, just my opinion - others feel differently, so what) by taking out items that I used to buy. I find sams much better for getting my stuff. Unfortunately, sams does not sell top tier and therefore the associate membership at costco, which btw, pays for itself with gas and bagel dividends. End of story. You harping on some BS is not useful.

There will be plenty more times they will advertise, so buy one closer to your expiration date.

First of all, you did not even know top tier gas rating existed which has been around 30 years now.Secondly you made a fasle assumption that it was gimmick created by gas companies for marketing.Thirdly I never said anything about car manufacturers voiding warranties. It's like saying, Apple and Samsung say max optimal operating temperature is 100F', so give me documents on if they would void warranties if using their products at temperature over 100F'. I see many using them at dry sauna at 200'F. You seem to be one of those people. Funny you have not provided a single test/study or even a document. Do whatever you want to do buddy 😆

I did all of this and it worked for me. Problem is I can't change the name. Also they are sending a membership card to the wrong name at the wrong address. Now what?

Stating facts. The top tier fuel marketing scam is getting old. All the local Shell, Chevron, and Mobil stations have removed their top tier fuel logos because unlike motor oil, there is no standard to this labeling.

I had a bunch of issues but your advice helped. I used a different credit card and email address (didn't just add a period to my old one), and I also put in a fake phone number for good measure. That finally worked. As soon as the account was created I changed the phone number back to our real one so I don't forget in the future.
The gmail trick wasn't sufficient for me. Gmail trick plus a different phone number (other half's) did the trick though. Although it did say "You look familiar, are you sure you haven't had a membership?", this was easily bypassed through the power of lying. I assume lying to corporations isn't a crime... yet.

FWIW, I was able to open a chat on the Help Center section of the Sam's Club site, and mentioned that I seemed to have just missed this, and asked if there was anything they were aware of for any deals, and the rep provided me with a link for $25 off the Club membership, or $40 off the Plus membership (link appears to be keyed to the requester, but it's good until May 31, 2025; so no need to decide today, but if you missed this and still want to mull it over, it might be worth getting a link and deciding later) - the chat was like 5min long, pretty good ROI :-)

I did the same after reading your comment, the chat was helpful and directed me towards Groupon where it was available for $20 but we're offering me a direct $25 promo. I decided to use the groupon at $20, signed up and locked in the 4 burner griddle I've been eyeing for months.

Edit: Groupon $20 price is valid until Sunday night i believe
