When I read the stories of the people who got arrested and spent days in jail, some of them missed kids graduation, one man was on the way to hospital for his wife delivery and another man was arrested and hand cuff in front of his son school.
Just boycott them.
I am seeing good rates when booking 5+ days. $28 for a standard 7-seater SUV such as a Ford Explorer, Nissan Pathfinder, Toyota Highlander, Tesla Model 3 SUV.

There are basically 3 options that don't suck, and have some optimized process for frequent rentals that avoids humans.
National, Hertz, and Avis.
I always book a mid-size, and 70% of the time I drive at least a mid-size SUV (IE: Rav-4). Avis is consistent about small upgrades. Hertz has big or no upgrades. National, in a emerald aisle airport, can be amazing.
Hertz has some good "local" stations in the mountain west (non-corporate).
I avoid all the others, but I'm pretty sure Hertz knows who their frequent renters are and doesn't play the bs things to them (cleaning fees, etc).
