This is always the complaint on these speakers. Plenty of dB's and an easy speaker to power but absolutely muddy middles that don't get better with time. Break-in usually allows a speaker to be more dynamic, especially the low frequency woofer tones. These really can't get better with break-in as they are a 2-way speaker full of compromise (similar to the KEF's).

I never minded this issue if they were part of a larger 5.1 or 7.1 system as there are 3,4 and 5 way speakers to pick up the middle. Not so good with a 2.0 or 2.1 though. And if you are looking at near field listening, you really want a 3 way with a reasonable sub.

Hate to be such a fan of the Sony SSCS5's, but they really are superior for near field applications. There's also a hack to get them for well under the $199 LIST.

1) Buy them direct from the Sony store
2) Sign up for their mailing list for $25 off
3) Link and pay thru PayPal for 5% cashback

$199 minus $25 minus $10 rebate = $165 net.
I'm not really doing near field listening, the room is like 15x20.

It's weird… the imaging of the center (vocals) on the Klipsch's seems pretty good. My ub5s have this weird thing where my head has to be in like the EXACT RIGHT PLACE to have the center resolve. But once I do the instruments all around the sound field sound like they are coming from one place, I guess audiophile folks call it something like pinpointing?

The Klipsch's actually do not sound bad at all… they sound better than my old Elac b5's, but they seem to be failing vs my ub5s in the imaging department. The sound signature itself I don't mind and I really like the soundstage width and depth.

I know, the ub5s are hard to drive so i might be lacking there. I am powering them off my aventage a740 in pure direct mode. I do have some v3 monos on order and those might make the ub5s come alive with their soundstage.

I am just contemplating whether or not to return the Klipsch speakers.

I will give them some break in and see if things improve.

Edit: when I say the instruments are from one place I mean from where they should be, and it sounds like a single instrument. On the rps, the instrument seems to come from an area rather than a single point even though the left and right edges of the soundstage are wider. In addition, the soundstage seems fuller on the rps vs the ub5- the ub5s have a crescent like soundstage and the rps have more like a semi-circle.

Its cheap-ish but they sound extrememly bright. Theyre much better off axis than on axis so you dont want these pointed at you. For the price the build qulity & sound is fine.

Deal looks decent. Their website lacks any info whatsoever. Anyone order from here and been happy? Are those are 6.5 speakers?
They have been around for 15+ years! I just got a set of Heresy IV from them; no issues, ever.

RSL 10E should be the pick for 3 bills imo.

I have to agree here. The BIC was the pick for years until RSL dethroned it.
Huh. Checking the specs, it looks like they boast ~0.5W idle consumption, too. I'd had my eyes on the Klipsch SPL-100 @ $250 shipped but I guess this one's worth serious consideration.

RSL is a great company to buy from and if you ever have an issue they will take care of you. Top notch CS from a smaller company that cares.

The only Klipsch models I would consider are the RP ones where they have allegedly fixed the amp issues. They are over your price point though.

I ordered the morning of the 15th, they handed off to UPS yesterday with an ETA of Thursday.

FWIW, I was wondering about mine too, yesterday - it turns out the order confirmation and shipment notification emails had gone to my spam folder in gmail.

Thanks! Every time I go to look it says the shipper hasn't given the item to UPS yet.

Got mine today -- arrived used with an Amazon label on the box and a crutchfield pamphlet inside. Dented and missing the grille. I messaged customer support, hopefully they'll just exchange these for me.

I have a RP-404c as my center now with 2x floorstanding KEF Q950's. Wondering if the upgrade to the RP-504c II would be worth it, or if my money would be better spent on a KEF center/something else

Oof. Earlier today I'd gotten a 'Scheduled for delivery tomorrow' email that confused me a bit because it indicates "From AMAZON.COM", but it's definitely for these speakers. I hope your experience isn't going to be a common theme here.

These are definitely advertised as "new".

They acknowledged using Amazon fulfillment, and offered to ship me out a replacement directly. I do see that they have new units in stock on Amazon, hopefully you'll get one of those!

Just got mine a bit ago. Definitely "Fulfilled by Amazon". They'd been double taped - you can bet your arse I scrutinized the hell out of that after seeing your post - but thankfully, it was clear it had never been opened.

They're still a little chilly from having sat in a UPS truck on a cold day, but so far they sound great out of the box. In a blind test, I think I'd be hard pressed to pick out the difference between these and 'The Sevens' (which I've returned due to idle hiss). I think this set is a keeper!

I bought a pair of these last Friday and they aren't due to be delivered until 3/4. I guess I should have bought them from Adorama since they offer 2-day shipping. I've Never waited this long for something online…
