My first one died within a year. They're customer service was terrible.
I got this and had zero plastic smell at all.

Not all air fryers have that smell. Been going strong for 6 months and I like that it has the window, light, and gets to 450 degrees while most air fryers top out at 400.
Good practice to run things like this outside for a while on the highest settings a few times to offgas. Think of how long it takes that "new car smell" to totally disappear. Everything has residual from manufacturing unless it's high-end medical or aerospace equipment.

Bought this fryer and it's great. It did have a smell for the first 30 minutes, exactly as the instructions say after that the smell is gone. Does an excellent job with chicken wings.

Maybe I'm an outlier but I got mine around September and use it about once a week. I haven't noticed any issues. Run it for a couple cycles on the highest settings to get any kind of scent out. It does its job for heating up frozen foods (i.e. nuggets or chicken strips) or getting your leftovers warm and crispy. I've never used an air fryer for real cooking and this seems to do the job perfectly.
You're not an outlier - I have never had a plastic smell from any of these either. People who experience user error usually scream extraordinarily loud to convince themselves that it's the product's fault.

I have always wondered if basket and materials inside are plastic coated or painted that can seep into your food. is it safe or is it more like a micro wave. Pardon my ignorance.
I have this. It's completely metal on the inside of the basket but parts of the fryer itself are plastic, like the outer walls. I got 2 but one stopped turning on literally the 3rd I used it. Granted, I left it in my cubicle so maybe a co-worker messed it up while I wasn't present. that said, I'm willing to spin the roulette at this price for the clear window, lights, and space saving footprint.
