What's the difference between $60 vs $200 mesh wifi systems for home use? I'm on 300M internet connection.

It depends, What's your use case ? Service speed? Wired nodes or wireless?

CPU and Ram is the same, the only difference is MX10600 has 2 x 5ghz bands (one ac one ax) and the MX8500 has 1x 5ghz ax and the third band is 6ghz.
If you have no 6ghz clients you won't see any difference. Also the 6ghz band has a ~50% shorter range than 5ghz.

I know! Wish I picked more up. Waiting when I have time to install home assistant on it.
Why? Because of cheaper price or this $20 device performance?

6E 3 pack $80. something doesn't add up.
Agreed. Original price when it launched was 10 Benjamins. But reviews for it are generally positive.

SNB showed poor mesh performance under high load but that was with early firmware. One would think that is sorted out over the past 3 years of fw updates. https://www.smallnetbuilder.com/w...-reviewed/

With open source support that mesh system has to be the slickest deal here. Almost too good to be true if they're new.

In for 2 sets of MX8503. A multigig, wifi 6E, openwrt supported router for $26.70 each is a killer deal ATM.

I've messed around with the MX4300/MX4200/MX5300 the past few months in openwrt. Been all good so far. The BIG plus of these MX8500 is the 5GB WAN port. All the others have only gigabit. They are still building out residential multigig service in my area (1.2gb max ATM) but I don't know when a deal like this will come around again. Full FOMO in effect.

Been out of the loop for a while, I'm still on an old nighthawk, any recommendations for a new router that supports gigabit and has ports? Would prefer the ability to use ddwrt if possible 😀

I"m a fan of Asus and have owned 5 different models and recently upgraded from the RT-AX68U to the RT-AX86U and its amazing..tremendous range and speed, and in my opinion the Asus GUI is the best of any due to its limitless features. And if you're a total geek, you can install the Merlin firmware as well. Best of success, regardless

For those of us who live in a small apartment and don't need a mesh system, is there a noticeable jump in the rest of the specs?

Right now the following Nighthawk is working more than fine. NETGEAR 4-Stream WiFi 6 Router (R6700AX) – Security Features, AX1800 Wireless Speed (Up to 1.8 Gbps),

Looks like a solid deal to get 6ghz. Has openwrt support.
How does mesh work with DDWRT, is the setup easy? Does it work seamlessly when hopping on and off different mesh?

Depends on the layout. I had devices in far corner have occasional trouble before mesh. Now I have some Qos issues but everything connects.

Anyone have experience with the mx8503 system, specifically when connecting each node via Ethernet?

I have a dozen or two IOT devices, and my current single router isn't able to connect to the ones outside the house...

Not a bad price for 6e 3 unit mesh. Note that while the WAN port is 5 gb, all the ethernet ports are only 1 gb.

That's what mesh is. If it didn't hop seamlessly, it wouldn't be a mesh system.

FYI, mesh is just a new (or newer, at this point) term for existing bridge technology, albeit with a few more bells and whistles. You can accomplish the same thing with any 3 routers with a little work.
