from what I can tell it's relatively recent that ryi150c has been available tool only (no battery), which this is. the previous best price on the battery combo at DTO was around $70. so this is decent for those of us not needing any batteries - and I'd be buying it EXCEPT:

there is a 3rd party product available that's much better: "SYMIK PSC (pro)" (on amazon). it's seriously awesome, it's this same bidirectional usb-c charger idea, except it goes to 100 watts both ways. it doesn't have the AC power inverter, but for me that's irrelevant (I only used it to charge laptops, and better laptops now have usb c charging, wasting a lot less power)

I can vouch for the SYMIK PDC. I was skeptical about buying 3rd party Ryobi stuff from Amazon but it's been awesome
I've heard that a lot of aftermarket devices could brick your batteries if you let them drain. Is that the case with this?

Interested. What are people's use cases?

I'd be interested in using as a laptop charger. Having said that I can just use my portable battery stations.
hurricane shuts off power for a week +
use this to make use of all the batteries

Have you used this to power networking equipment during an outage?
I have used it to power my t mobile home internet. I have also traveled with it and had it running the same T-Mobile gateway on a roadtrip. Mostly though it's for backup.

Addl inf re symik pro. Just be aware if you plan to charge at 100 all the time.
(bottom of pict 'charges…at 100w')

"the charger by default is limited to 65W for longevity of your batteries"

So for those who have this..

Can i use this like plugged up into a usb c port car charger 24/7
and when the car is cut off the inverter switches to send power directly to my cell phone?

or do you have to switch it on and off for which way the power flows?

For $5 more, this is arguably a better value if you also have 40v batteries.

For me, during an outage my 18v batteries are used for lights and fans. This now gives me a good way to use the power stored in my 40vs.

Yes I have looked. They used to have a dual usba output thing but that has been discontinued and is slow as hell.

I bought mine last October. I used it with my Dremel to remove rust from my patio furniture. A lot better than dragging out extension cords

I have not. I have an older model that I have used to power a laptop, which I connect to my phone's hotspot during power outages.

No issues so far. This device pops up on the Ryobi subreddit periodically and I've never heard anyone say anything bad so far

Ryobi puts their battery protection in the batteries themselves, unlike most other brands that depend on the tool to protect the battery.

This means Ryobi batteries are a little more expensive, but "dumb" tools (like all their blue tools that existed before lithium batteries but still use them) can't kill the batteries - Ryobi batteries will shut down to protect themselves from being overdrawn.

DeWalt/Milwaukee/Makita/etc batteries do not have such protection and can be bricked if discharged too far.

Agreed 100% on the SYMIK being more efficient than the Ryobi inverter. I own the SYMIK and the previous gen of this Ryobi inverter. The SYMIK is almost twice as efficient than the Ryobi inverter when charging my laptop. In other words, using the SYMIK is like having double the battery capacity!
