You don't have to vent if you have a large enough space like 10' x 10'. It just needs to be able to pull in some amount of heat from the air without recycling the cold air it is exhausting.
I believe in their receipts it states that if you return any of the products they will deduct the discount from your return amount.

Side note, I have the 50 gallon one that I self installed almost a year ago and it's been great. My only suggestion is to upsize it from what you would normally have, i.e. if you currently have a 50 gallon, opt for the 65 gallon or 80 gallon to maximize your power savings as the recovery using the heat pump is much slower (especially in the winter here in the PNW due to cold water temp) than resistive heating. After 3 showers back to back expect a recovery time of 4-6 hours using just the HP.
The main topic of this post is not pertaining to tankless units.

How much money do you save a month with this vs your old talk?
I thought I had a picture of my old water heater but I must've deleted it. Old one had to be over 10 years old so all I can really give you is some assumptions. New one uses between 45-60kw (more in the winter time) and old one (based on typical averages) might have been 200-250kw. Probably even higher but a good 4x less. With rates in FL being pretty low (think around 0.15/kw) it's $9 vs $37. So roughly $30 savings per month? Probably a bit more. Overall I'm happy with it!

Before purchasing one of these, I recommend checking with your utility provider for any available rebates or coupons. Last year, I received a $500 coupon from Oncor in Texas when I bought one. However, it seems the current coupon hasn't been updated to cover the newer models, according to their website. You may want to reach out to them to see if the newer models are included, or just attempt to use the coupon anyway. Note that the models covered by the coupon have water ports on the side of the tank only, and you'll need extra-long lines if you're replacing an older unit with top-mounted ports.

Here's the link for Oncor customers in Texas: www.smartsavingstx.com

I ordered a 40 gallon 220 heat pump version. Itll be ready for pickup in a week. I'm on borrowed time with my 19 year old heater at this point!

I got the 50g back in December

So far the saving are not what I was hoping.
Our old one says it uses 6000kw/yr so that's 500/mo.

This one says like 1300kw/yr, so I was expecting 110kw/mo.

But right now I tried one month on "heat pump" mode. 369kw
Another month on "energy saver mode" and got 360kw.

Pretty disappointed

That doesn't sound right. I'm using 70-80kWh per month when our ground water is ice cold (so effeciency is way down) on our 65 gallon unit.

Are there any errors on the control panel being shown? The early run of these had faulty control panels (mine included) that would disable heat pump mode and force it into resistive mode (even though Heat Pump was shown).
I think the error code is T009

Interesting, now I'm hopeful it's an error.
It's not showing any errors now, but I wanna say day 1 I had that t009 error.
I'll look into it

My local utility has a $1600 rebate for these. Coupled with federal it was a no brainer. Basically got paid to install this, though I did self install.
I'm also with Pepco. Do you know how much installation would cost? Thanks.

You'd have to call around. I was getting quotes in the $1000+ so decided to DIY it.

I'd scroll through the error history. The fix was easy but ut was an issue with the current model where the water pipes are also coming out of the top and not just the sides. Unsure which version you have.

Do not buy

Total crap and no support resolution.

Home Depot customer service & Rheem together scheme to abandon customers

Bought in 2021 and still doesn't work properly !

Even received a return authorization from rheem, uninstalled water heather, brought back to same Home Depot where purchased and they would not return or exchange the unit even though Rheem told them to. Had to take back home and re-install broken unit. This all happened within 1st year of warranty.

Now stuck with a $2k paperweight

Even contacted Ankur Maheshwari at Rheem before he quit and went to Rinnai, just more bs and no help. He probably quit due to crap workplace at Rheem.

Maybe I should try contacting James Courtney, who is the director of product management at Rheem? Anybody deal with him? How about Chris Peel, president and CEO of Rheem? Anybody deal with him?

Problem #1 Water heather Has false positive alarms on leak sensor, had to disable that circuit get unit to run. Luckily I found service manual with wiring diagram for mail board and sensors. ( so now the leak detection and automatic valve option are useless)

Problem #2 Has/had bad temperature sensors? , had to disassemble the water heater and replace sensors only to find out problem still exists-says high discharge temperature, is in alarm mode all the time, have to run in basic electric element heat mode and uses more electricity than old heater. This repair was Instructed to do by Rheem and they sent me the parts and instructions-told me I was on my own to fix it myself even though it was under warranty!!

Rheem now says the temperature sensors are ok but heat pump is bad and needs replacing under warranty -but no way to do that with Home Depot and Rheem will not repair or replace since we bought it from Home Depot

And noisy/loud and whine heat pump-when it did run.

Nice in theory but junk parts and unserviceable design for homeowners and or plumbers

I haven't even mentioned the hours long phone calls over the years in trying to get this fixed to no avail.

Our Rheem warranty case from 2022 is still open!

Can't wait to join a class action lawsuit, since I know I'm not the only one who has a problem.

Do not buy this
