Meh - every 'two-stage or bust' post here completely ignores the fact that most areas don't get significant 12-24"+ snowstorms more than once a decade or so. Even around the great lakes, we haven't been getting a ton lately - most of our snowfall events the last several years have been ~3-6", with a few moderate 6-12" ones - basically the sweet spot for a smaller blower like this.

The 'issue' with these is that they don't have drive wheels - their 'self propelled' claim comes from the auger sorta pulling the unit along, so you have to help them along more than you might vs one with drive wheels.

The single stage Snowmaster 824 QXE I have can actually move more snow faster than most two-stage blowers available. It's also way faster to make passes without having to mess with a huge, heavy two-stage behemoth with turn clutches or gear selection. It also clears basically right down to bare concrete which bigger two stages often tend to struggle with.

It's not too bad, most important thing to do is drain the gas from the tank/carb before you put it away for the season.
Same here near the Great Lakes, but the Snowmaster 824 QXE has still saved me several hours worth of time spent shoveling. It feels a little goofy to use a snowblower for just 2-4", but it's a matter of 4-5 minutes behind the snowblower vs 20-30+ of shoveling.

Scored one in relatively like new condition on Marketplace for $100.People are asking about $200. Worked good to come in after the big snow blower to scrape off any left over snow.

I bit. Needed something small to just clear my driveway. No sidewalks where I'm at

Not looking forward to storing it or maintaining another gas engine but I know I'll thank myself later

Thanks for posting. I had bought the 21" model from HD Online in early February. Your post made me check the price of that one. Quick chat with HD service and I got $163 back on my card!

Edit: I have already used it twice on 6-8" of snow in the midwest in 0° temps and it worked great. Ended up doing my driveway and four neighbors in < 45 minutes.

I cna' tell but this looks like it may not be a metal auger. To me that's as important of he stages. If it's just a painted metal then that's super fine, but if this is plastic..."oh hell nah"

I type this as I've seen a few driveways using a one-stage blower and it looks ike more work than my 2 stage BUT still better than pushing w/a shovel Smilie

For this one, it's a fiber-reinforced rigid rubber paddle (a big part of why these particular ones are so good clearing right down to concrete too).
Toro sells them for ~$34 ea [toro.com], but here's a listing that does indicate rubber (you can also see it's flat - when it's curved for install, the shape gives it structure): https://www.repairclinic.com/Part...71/4995162

As this is a Toro, I'd trust them regarding the part. Anything MN made should be deemed as trustworthy Wink
