Good price for a well regarded mini PC! These run around $350 bare bones on Aliexpress which will take longer to get... but leaves you with around $175 for RAM and storage compared to this deal. I opted to throw in 48 gb of Crucial PC5600 RAM and a 2 TB MSI drive for about $20 more, but for the convenience/support and simplicity of just ordering this from Amazon $522 is a good buy.

The newer AMD and Intel miniPC stuff with the 890m and ARC graphics are only marginally faster but usually double the price with the same RAM/storage. The flagship AMD AI series APU do improve graphics performance a LOT... but also only come in $2000+ Asus tablets (the Z13 Flow).

The 8845/790m is a potent combo and will run right along with the full 8000 series AMD desktop APU's but in a much smaller and more efficient package. These are a great buy right now while the madness of the current GPU market is sorting itself out if you want to roll through your back catalog of Steam / Amazon Gaming / Epic / GoG games that have been stacking up. They are also capable for media tasks, video transcoding/editing, etc..

This also has an Oculink port, and for $100 for the Minisforum Oculink dock on Amazon (plus whatever size power supply your card needs) you can connect a standard desktop GPU to this.
I have this computer. As said above, you can do better barebones off AliExpress. However, I can confirm that GMKtec will offer absolutely no support if you have problems. They won't even respond to emails. My Event Viewer logs show constant errors with the WiFi module. The computer also cuts off a few hours after I've put it to sleep. These issues could admittedly be due to Windows. With a rebuilt version from Amazon, you could just return it. Those problems aside, it's been a very capable setup and has easily handled photo editing.
Hi. I have the GMKtec K8 version. You can easily swap out the Mediatek WiFi card and replace it with the Intel AX210NGW. You can get this card from Aliexpress. Download the drivers from Intel's website. Cheers!

I believe the 780M is in the rog ally that was just on here. I picked it up from best buy and returning it asap. I absolutely hate the RogAlly and that's why I'm looking for one of these mini PCs. my research is telling me the 6600m is better for gaming so I will wait for the replies to come in. With their thoughts.

Well yea, the 6600m is a discrete graphics chipset with dedicated 8gb of VRAM based on the older RDNA2 from 2021, vs the 780m which is is an integrated component of the CPU (APU) that shares system memory and but on the newer RDNA3 architecture.

The Radeon 6600m also uses at least twice as much power just to run the GPU (the CPU not included) as the entire APU like the Ryzen 7 8845HS with the 780m included under full load so you are absolutely looking at more fan noise.

I do see the merit of something like this https://www.amazon.com/MINISFORUM...ows-6900HX if you just want a one-and-done solution for about the same price/performance as building a micro ATX budget desktop of similar performance capabilities. It has the older Ryzen 6900hx CPU but paired with a faster discrete Ryzen 6600m / 8 gb GPU which will be a lot faster in games than the 780m equipped mini's...

For about $200 more you get a huge uplift in gaming performance, though you lose some multi-core performance, add a lot of fan noise and have no Oculink port so expansion into a discrete GPU of your choice later with a $100 dock plus power supply.

After looking around at prices. I picked up the Ally Rog for 390 open box. I just purchased the saberebt dock for this and I'm just going to keep the rog. I'm not spending 700+ on a mini device at this point. I have a 6800xt pc at home and will just keep the rog with a portable monitor and this 20.00 dock. Still under 500 at this.

Thanks for the reply !

If you don't want an oculink port there are much cheaper mini pc's with similar specs.
I'm not gonna buy this deal, but I'd like to be more educated in the future about occulink for deals that pop up. What benefits could having an occulink port serve me in a home lab setting?

Keep in mind this model has an onboard microphone on the motherboard for some odd reason. It's always on and you can either put tape/foam over it or remove it physically.

The presence of on-board mic is clearly declared on their website.

Laptops also come with built-in mic. Not sure why this is any different. I understand that it is unexpected in a mPC vs Laptops. If the PC maker clearly discloses the existing of microphone, then I do not think it is shady. But that's just me.

Because it was not mentioned on the site previously and this one is hidden inside the case.

Built in mic support could mean multiple things. A 3.5mm audio mic etc. Plus the location for that mic on the motherboard is not ideal so why it is there.

The K8 Plus ships with the Intel AX200 Wifi adapter, not a Mediatek card that is common in other makes/models.

The AX210 is an upgrade to Wifi 6E from 6 only with the AX200... but are somewhat notorious for poor quality control, I'd suggest purchasing on Amazon vs Aliexpress in case you need to return/swap it to get a good one. https://www.amazon.com/REKONG-AX2...B08PBRRL9Z
Can confirm that the K8 Plus I ordered with this deal came with an Intel AX200.

Also for anyone curious:
- SSD in mine is a Crucial P3 Plus with heat sink.
- RAM is labeled TWSC PC5-44800

I've been eyeing the MINISFORUM DeskMini UM690 Slim Mini PC AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX for $270 after coupon. its barebones, but about half the price of this. this post's cpu seems a bit faster and there is obviously no ram/ssd in the R9. are these differences plus occulink worth the higher price?

What would you suggest that's cheaper with similar specs without the oculink?
