There are so many open boxes because this tablet is AWFUL. Literally feels like a 10 year old tablet and is even to slow for kids to use. Once apps are open, it's fine, but boy is the interface awful.

Other option for the A9+ 4GB/64GB model is sign up for metro bring your own phone plan $30 for first month, activate with eSim then use that active line to qualify for free A9+5G tablet 4GB/64GB when you pay a single month of $20 tablet line. $50 total out of pocket for brand new one with a bit of leg work

I have the Galaxy Tab A (8-inch version, but similar), and mostly agree. It is slower and the screen is not even close to my Tab S6 or my wife's Tab S8. However, once apps are open, it is functional. For the money and my specific use case, it is enough. For example, I stream music and movies several times a week. I use it for email, web browsing, and work authenticator apps too. But if you want a responsive tablet, this is not it.

I went ahead and bought a new 8GB RAM/256GB storage version at Best Buy for $199 this evening.
I looked at various brands of cheaper, higher-specced tablets on Amazon such as the iPlay and, according to reviews, they all appear to be reasonably likely to stop functioning properly after 2-8 weeks (e.g., screen touching no longer responds, takes forever to boot, freezes constantly, WiFi dies, etc.). I've not had such experiences with Samsung devices thus far. Hopefully this will be good enough to do what I want it to do (e.g., let my mom check her e-mail, watch videos, etc. from her hospital bed).

This would be SO sick if there were a good way to scrap the recovery and use a custom recovery to install BlendOS or at least Lineage.

I have three of these tablets with the 8 GB RAM. This has no problems doing the following:

YouTube any Streams up to 4k
Local VLC content movies up to 4K
Browsing the web with multiple ad blockers using the Samsung web browsing app
Listening to audiobooks
Reading
Watching movies and TV shows with kodi up to 4K
It supports a 1 TB MicroSD I know because I have one installed

I have no idea how it does with games because I don't play games on this that's what a steam deck or Nintendo switch are for.

I've owned every cheap crappy Amazon Fire HD tablet Amazon has made and even bought a more expensive Max 11 model. They all suck because fire OS sucks! And it sucks even worse having to use that stupid fire toolbox thing too.

I was also looking at the Walmart ONN brand but that looks like a cheap Chinese POS.

If you need tablets drawing functions then get the S Series otherwise this tablet is the bomb!

if you want an OLED display then get the S Series.

If you need portable gaming then get a freaking switch or a steam deck!

There's one thing that I don't like about this tablet but it's the same about all Samsung tablets, I hate how Samsung's design language puts the power button and the volume buttons on the same side of the tablet. Put them on different sides so that it's easier to distinguish them from each other. I hate how they're positioned right next to each other.

I got mine for $120 average price for 8 GB RAM version. There's no better option in this price range.

Does it compete with the s10 ultra 15" tablet? GTFO that thing is like $1100. Some of the complaints on here are literally stupid.

Tab A 8inch is not similar to this (Tab A9+) tablet at all. Specs are way different; they are very different machines.

Additionally, you really shouldn't compare a sub $100 tablet (the prior referenced Tab A 8inch) to tablets over $200 (Tab S6 or Tab S8. If you meant lite versions of those, you're closer but still off a bit).
