Where's the deal? It shows no featured offers and $15.95 is the best price I see.

Ace link goes to a 7" (model DWHT10295), not 9.2". Don't see a Dewalt model number on the Amazon 9.2" listing to compare those and figure out whether the SD posting is wrong or Amazon listing is exaggerating. Anyone know?

An alternative: Home Depot has a generic retractable utility knife for $2.47 (regular price) - https://www.homedepot.com/p/Retra.../303741404
I've been happy with mine and like that the blade locks into 3-different extended lengths. I don't see any mention of the DeWalt model also being able to lock into multiple extended length positions.

Comparing the specs, the DeWalt pros over the cheaper Home Depot model are:
• DeWalt comes w/ 5 blades instead of 4 (one installed plus 3 extra)
• DeWalt's blade changing is much easier
• DeWalt's keychain hole (or whatever it's called) appears to have a latch
• DeWalt has a built paper cutter slot that can be used while the blade is retracted

DeWalt model is able to lock into multiple extended length positions. Does the cheaper option need the assistance of a Phillips head screwdriver or drill to change the blade? I can't afford to lose so many seconds for a blade change, especially when standing on a ladder or roof. This reload can get you killed. 🫣

Good to know! I didn't see that feature mentioned on the Ace or Amazon product pages. Thanks!

Yes. A phillips head screwdriver is needed to open to the extra-blade storage compartment and to change the blade.

This model has terrible reviews on Ace web site. Apparently, this model is too large, forget about easy blade changes, & some peeps didn't even know there's built in storage that contains free starter blades. Guess that's why they discount pricing it.

The differences between a cheap utility knife and a fancier one that aren't going to show in the specs, are usually:
  • Metal vs plastic construction
  • Ergonomic shape
  • Other ergonomic features like rubber grips
If you're doing a lot of cutting it's a lot more pleasant with a fancier unit. I personally have the Bosch and like it but this Dewalt looks comparable.

I have a few of these for a couple years. The quick blade change works fine, spare blades are easy access and the carabiner clip is handy for securing it. Never had any problems with mine.

You can get this crap for free in Harborfreight. Opening the screw to change the blades is a PITA. The whole case opens up and then you gotta carefully line up the blade and rememeber which way the housing went and then put the screw back on. All of this fiddling wastes several minutes. I have 2 of them and crrently looking to replace them with Dewalt or similar.

That's based off the original design Stanley has been making for years. 1952 according to the website. Its just two pieces of stamped metal. I guess if your using it heavy duty changing the blade could be cumbersome. Otherwise its one screw. Maybe a snap off blade would be better.
