Blizzard already ripped us off once, hard pass on spending another dime on this game.
I agree with the above statement "just play Path of Exile 2 instead of this. It's superior in every way."
try poe, try poe2, try torchlight infinite, try last epoch, try basically any other ARPG
Game mechanics introduced in D2 that, for me personally made it so AMAZING, the hours of rushing lvl 1's to hell, Baal runs for days! Teleporting to Mephisto praying to God I didn't hit one of those tiny little farkers. Magic finding and having such a unique item attribute system that was complex and meaningful.... those things are what the leadership of D3+ disliked and made sure to remove/change.
Blizzard is a joke of a company, absolute trash leadership wrought with sexism and bigotry. D3 was terrible at launch, just a spammy super colorful mess of a game. It got boring really fast. I absolutely loved playing through the story once by myself and hated it after that. Zero replayability. When I see 40x bright 100M+ damage blasting my farking retina every 5 seconds, I know I'm no longer playing a real Diablo game.
I thought maybe they learned their lessons with D4, early signs showed promise. NOPE, trash. Some good elements, but missed the target by a god damn galaxy.
Look, if you go into it expecting a Diablo-ish like game but don't actually consider it a real Diablo franchise game, and you got older... have kids and a job.... and you just want to pick up an actiony game to kill some time, sure why not. imI wouldn't give my money to them for anything at this point.
As others have mentioned, there are Diablo-like games out there that deserve your money more.
To each their own. Personally I'd rather play D2R vs D3 or D4
I'm a casual gamer (plays once a month of less) and I personally enjoy playing it.
I'm waiting for the expansion pack to drop lower, though.
They're never gonna satisfy everyone but as a company, Blizzard is kind of a POS. Not only do they lock practically all the nice clothing skins behind MTX, the pricing of these items is absolutely absurd. The game alone for < half the price wasn't a bad deal at the time but the expansion seems way overpriced for the amount of content it offers, and I refuse to pay nearly the cost of a full game all over again. Especially so once you consider how many more expansions they have lined up, which last I heard was three total with a plan of launching them at an annual cadence.
So, just be careful what you're getting into, esp for those who don't have the willpower to stop, as anyone who has played Diablo knows that the one thing this series is infamous for is its loot; all that time spent farming, waiting for that shiny unique you've spent several hours hunting for and the dopamine rush that comes with once it finally drops.

I loved D1, really loved D2, took me a while to get into D3 and the expansions but I have a few thousand hours of play in D3. I didn't like where D4 was going so I ddn't buy until about a year after it came out.... I really was kind of enjoying it... it was different from D3 but an OK different. I broke down and bought the expansion because of how OP the new class was and how underperforming the existing classes were. ..... well, I just lost ALL interest in D4 and haven't played it since sometime before Christmas and I am not even missing it. I did buy serious sam 4 and have been playing that for an hour or two late at night when it is too late to work on my bathroom remodel, lol.
You can do what you want, but if you don't have it yet, it might be safe to say you're not missing anything? I would wait until a free to play weekend and give it a try.... or better yet, watch a live streamer play. Now, they may make it look easy/fun because they're over that learning curve but what you're watching for is the mundane process of trying to get your gear rolled and re-rolled correctly to make your character able to tackle the harder content. That is where I lost interest. I don't enjoy farming dozens of hours to re-roll affixes, brick an item (meaning, you can no longer change certain aspects), and have to start over. D3 was kind of similar but to take on T16 you didn't need god-gear ... you only needed to spend the grinding time if you wanted to push the greater rifts. If you didn't care about that, and just enjoyed playing and getting items, then T16 was OK.... but even then, after a while of doing the same thing over and over again, the repetitiveness just gets old (why they introduced seasons and why seasons are a hit in the beginning but after players conquer the new content, they lose interest and player base wanes the later you go in the season).
Oh, and finally, don't wait for Diablo IV to start "diablo'ing", because it never will
Anyway, that's my .02cents, take it for what it's worth
