I wouldn't do it. You can put nearly 180 degree water into a good hot water bottle. Why would you risk scalding yourself or your child with some Chinese no name crap over a few dollars? By the time you buy a generic fleece cover that doesn't fit well, you will have spent $10-15 more when you could have bought a German Fashy for about that. Also the no name ones smell like rubber while the Fashy ones actually smell good.

Fleece (good for warming bed and wont burn you. Tolerates hotter water without being uncomfortable, so stays hot longer.)

Bare (More therapeutic for pain but can feel very hot. Releases heat quicker.)

If you have a digital kettle and a woman, you can make her day by heating up some water to about 170 degrees for a bottle and then tossing that in bed to pre heat the bed for her in winter.

sounds like a lot of work when you could just buy a heating blanket or mattress pad

Whoopee cushion. If you're old enough to remember those--check your cholesterol.

True point. I've done both. My wife likes both. The water bottle heat is more intense than our blanket. She cuddles the bottle like a pillow, and she likes it for her stomach when she's on her period.

there is electric version of the hot water bottle, so if one really want to use the hot water bottle, at least got the electric one.
if you could avoid boiling actual water, don't boil the the actual water.

I am thinking about buying one as a joke just to offer my wife when she asks me to get the heating pad.

Like a heating pad, or an actual electric hot water bottle?

I looked it up. I didn't even know those existed.
