I was deciding between the Hero 13 and the Action 3, and Gopro has multiple issues (sometimes just doesn't record) while DJI just works

Based on what Ive read, I have no sympathy for GoPro. This is a superior product at a lower price point - GoPro squandered many opportunities for improvement in price and performance. Better and cheaper alternatives are good for us consumers.
Any rational consumer will spend the least to get the most, regardless of whether the product is made in the US or not.
The DJI app is free, right? What are they going to do, pay a "ridiculous 30% fee" on $0?? I see a price of $0.00000 on the iOS App Store. I would gladly pay anyone 30% of $0
"Rational consumer".
In the US?
"Spend the least to get the most".
Way oversimplified. Sometimes the "most" is not the best. Some devices/appliances/etc. try to do too many things, and have way too many features or modes. And they do all of them poorly. Compared with a better alternative which focuses on fewer things, but does them perfectly.

Just read more reviews about having to install an app at the DJI store for their unapproved apk. PASS.
I have a small regret about paying 300 for the action 5 pro, it's better than the 4, but the 4 is probably good enough.
good battery life
rugged
reliable
compatible with the wireless mics

I agree, for sure. Reminds me of BlackBerry in a way. They dominated, got complacent, and got REKT eventually.

ULTRA AGREE. This is the truth.
As far as the 30% App/Play Store "tax" from Google And Apple. I'm a bit divided. I get the idea, and I think in the case of the iOS App Store it actually works. They're not perfect, but overall Apple does a good job of moderating the App Store and keeping garbage out. AND, there are still options for people who want to bypass and sideload (AltStore, for example, is amazing).
Anyway, sorry if I was a bit of a c*nt. I think I'm still going to buy a GoPro over an Osmo Action on principle. It really bothered me that basic functionality on my Osmo Mobile 3 Gimbal required a f*cking app. F*ck them for forcing that. Basically forcing you in to allowing them to collect data (based on the current iOS App Store details that's "Contact Info" and "Identifiers").
Full disclosure: I bought a DJI Mini 3 Fly More Combo™ last year. Maybe that makes me a hypocrite. I made a good faith effort to explore alternatives, but couldn't really find any. At with the remote+screen I don't have to use my phone at all. No app, no b*llshit.

From what I read earlier in the thread, it seems that there isn't a clean HDMI out. If it did, I would probably be looking to buy a few of these, but I'm sure this was a financial decision with DJI - I can't get a clean video out with any of their drones unless you go top end. You could likely still use it to stream as I had done with a GoPro by removing on screen elements, but it's not a true HDMI feed at HD if I recall, so not as sharp as you'd like.
Thanks.
China is advance in many aspects. Your claim of someone getting a better grade copying your homework is obscured.
For years, Honda's and Toyotas have been proven to be way more reliable cars than their American counterparts.
With the wealth inequality growing bigger and bigger, people want to spend less on more reliable products. Common sense.
I was considering a newer, GoPro, but is this worth considering? We mainly use it when we go skiing, or snorkeling, when we travel, or just around the yard. Basically just capturing family moments.

FYI, the Action 5 pro has a built-in barometer that adds more of the right red as you go deeper. It sounds like it provides more consistent results, but if staying mostly near surface (or fixed depth), the extra cost- plus the uncertainty of future fixes to bitrate and compression artifacts- may not be worth it.
Edit: the cam will sink, so use a form-fitting floater that doesn't block access/view.
