More like Gopro killed themselves. They've had overheating issues since forever while DJI somehow solved them by the Action 3.

I was deciding between the Hero 13 and the Action 3, and Gopro has multiple issues (sometimes just doesn't record) while DJI just works
GOPRO's are still great for what they do. It's just that now they have some healthy competition.
IMHO they still trade blows on cutting edge features and GoPro has still more loyal customers, but DJI is probably the clear winner in reliability.

That in itself isn't necessarily a red flag. Why would they want to pay the ridiculous 30% fee to Apple or the equivalent fees to Google just to be on their app store?

Based on what Ive read, I have no sympathy for GoPro. This is a superior product at a lower price point - GoPro squandered many opportunities for improvement in price and performance. Better and cheaper alternatives are good for us consumers.

Any rational consumer will spend the least to get the most, regardless of whether the product is made in the US or not.

The DJI app is free, right? What are they going to do, pay a "ridiculous 30% fee" on $0?? I see a price of $0.00000 on the iOS App Store. I would gladly pay anyone 30% of $0 Big Grin.

"Rational consumer".
In the US? LMAOLMAO. Keep 'em coming!

"Spend the least to get the most".
Way oversimplified. Sometimes the "most" is not the best. Some devices/appliances/etc. try to do too many things, and have way too many features or modes. And they do all of them poorly. Compared with a better alternative which focuses on fewer things, but does them perfectly.

Instead of a political argument about a camera, does anyone know if I can use this camera to stream my kids baseball games on GameChanger app? GameChanger can connect to a camera but it needs to use RTMPS.

Ok Dr Phil, write a book since you're smarter than everyone else.

Require online activation on their website? ( a review shows this issue)

Just read more reviews about having to install an app at the DJI store for their unapproved apk. PASS.
it's probably to give android users ADDITIONAL features, this app is approved in the apple store, and these things are far superior to gopro.

I have a small regret about paying 300 for the action 5 pro, it's better than the 4, but the 4 is probably good enough.

good battery life
rugged
reliable
compatible with the wireless mics

I just spent over 2 hours this weekend just trying to connect my Hero 7 to my phone so i can download the video. The software is terrible. I'm in the market to replace it now.

LOL! Hey look, no offense. I probably should have also mentioned that I agreed with your sentiments. I was probably a bit cheeky/snarky. Apologies.

"Based on what Ive read, I have no sympathy for GoPro."
"GoPro squandered many opportunities for improvement in price and performance."
I agree, for sure. Reminds me of BlackBerry in a way. They dominated, got complacent, and got REKT eventually.

"Better and cheaper alternatives are good for us consumers."
ULTRA AGREE. This is the truth.

As far as the 30% App/Play Store "tax" from Google And Apple. I'm a bit divided. I get the idea, and I think in the case of the iOS App Store it actually works. They're not perfect, but overall Apple does a good job of moderating the App Store and keeping garbage out. AND, there are still options for people who want to bypass and sideload (AltStore, for example, is amazing).

Anyway, sorry if I was a bit of a c*nt. I think I'm still going to buy a GoPro over an Osmo Action on principle. It really bothered me that basic functionality on my Osmo Mobile 3 Gimbal required a f*cking app. F*ck them for forcing that. Basically forcing you in to allowing them to collect data (based on the current iOS App Store details that's "Contact Info" and "Identifiers").

Full disclosure: I bought a DJI Mini 3 Fly More Combo™ last year. Maybe that makes me a hypocrite. I made a good faith effort to explore alternatives, but couldn't really find any. At with the remote+screen I don't have to use my phone at all. No app, no b*llshit.

For real. I have lots of opinion politically about US/China, but this is about the deal.

From what I read earlier in the thread, it seems that there isn't a clean HDMI out. If it did, I would probably be looking to buy a few of these, but I'm sure this was a financial decision with DJI - I can't get a clean video out with any of their drones unless you go top end. You could likely still use it to stream as I had done with a GoPro by removing on screen elements, but it's not a true HDMI feed at HD if I recall, so not as sharp as you'd like.

Can this be used as car dashcam? If yes, is there any way to automatically turn it ON/OFF when car engine starts/stops?

Thanks.

So DJI is better because they stole from GoPro? What kinda of nonsense is this? DJI makes drones too, does GoPro do the same?

China is advance in many aspects. Your claim of someone getting a better grade copying your homework is obscured.
Exactly this. I've noticed that the amount of xenophobia on this site is ridiculous. So folks here are mad that another country made a better product and also more affordable? Well it's a no brainer which is gonna sell more.. Maybe America just needs to step their game up? What happened to "free market capitalism" and "pull yourself up by your bootstraps.." "meritocracy" some of you always talk about?

For years, Honda's and Toyotas have been proven to be way more reliable cars than their American counterparts.

With the wealth inequality growing bigger and bigger, people want to spend less on more reliable products. Common sense.

Could this easily be mounted to a bicycle helmet and maybe capture license plates before impact? Without a gimbal?

My GoPro is probably due for new batteries and last time I used it, it stopped recording after about 30 seconds and only captured audio. It never did that before so I know the memory card is probably fine, so I'm leaning towards the battery.

I was considering a newer, GoPro, but is this worth considering? We mainly use it when we go skiing, or snorkeling, when we travel, or just around the yard. Basically just capturing family moments.

Want to know this as well. Right now I am using a phone for streaming volleyball but would like to branch out and have a dedicated camera for it

For snorkeling, the water filters out Red as you go/view deeper. That's why uncompensated images look greenish. It has AWB plus some manual (red) electronic filter settings. If you're filming in/out of water often, would need to rely on AWB, but don't know how good it works. May need to increase max ISO to prevent red noise.

FYI, the Action 5 pro has a built-in barometer that adds more of the right red as you go deeper. It sounds like it provides more consistent results, but if staying mostly near surface (or fixed depth), the extra cost- plus the uncertainty of future fixes to bitrate and compression artifacts- may not be worth it.

Edit: the cam will sink, so use a form-fitting floater that doesn't block access/view.
