To sum it up the u7 has much better sound. For the 55-in and it being in a bedroom not needing to have a sound bar is a key feature. Upscaling on TV has issues.
4K content on both televisions are equal I watched Dune 2 side by side frame for frame on both televisions and found myself in bright scenes looking at the M7 while in dark scenes caves with fire it was the u7.
I ended up getting the M7 for 436 off of Amazon early November. And the u7 for I think 486.
That being said I have 2 55-in TVs and I'm waiting for a 65 or 75 in of either one to go on sale I'll buy either one. I played Xbox on both looks amazing.
Adjustment features on the u7 are much greater in number than the M7.

My personal experience purchasing used products from Best Buy is that most are barely opened box returns, but then again, I've never purchased a TV from them, only used audio equipment and headphones. I say as long as you have a local Best Buy near you and a big enough car to fit the TV in case you have to return it, that it may be worth the risk, and if they allow you to add geek squad protection, if you'd like.

I think they mean the qm7k. The qm8 is the same model year at hthis one, but it's the high end model.
The qm6k is already out and highly regarded. Caleb from digital trends recommends it over this model, but it's currently $200 more.

Are there any recommendations on picture settings/calibrations that can be done by the user without specialized equipment? Thanks

I would still consider buying something that's listed as fair condition, if the price was good enough, but I wouldn't leave the store without opening it first.
At my best buy the open box excellent is $420, good for $400, and fair for $380. With that small of a difference I would probably get one of the better conditions. Also remember that the warranty isn't the same with open box items. Also if your credit card typically offers an extended warranty it usually doesn't apply to used/open box items (you may get lucky though)
