Is this series worth getting into? The books were a big hit when the series was ongoing, but I'd read that the final book was not well received and left a bad taste. Not sure if it's true, but supposedly that's part of the reason the sequel movies didn't do well (which in turn led to the movies being unfinished) — the final book upset so many fans, that they weren't interested in the movies anymore.

Would like to hear from someone who's read all the books.

The final book has this terrible middle section that just went on for forEVER but after that I think it finished well even though I had feelings about the ending.

If you have a physical e-ink kindle, you can still pull the book off the device itself, using the same methods you would have used when the D&T option was available.

I read all the books when I was younger. I found them enjoyable. The general premise was interesting but the execution and writing I found to be very poor. Still it was enjoyable (think of it as an action movie, silly and highly unrealistic in many places but still fun). I actually liked the last book but am in a minority. It tried to explain things and the premise but as with the rest of the books the writing was a bit lacking. If you liked Hunger games you will likely like this although it is a bit worse in essentially every way. There are much better series out there though.
