I bought these during the previous sale. These are decent sunglasses for the price. They look great, are comfortable, and the side shields help with reflections. They are assembled in the U.S. and the chromapop lenses, although polycarbonate, are great quality. I plan on using these for hiking.

Two negatives for me:
- The visible light transmission is very low which is great for when there is plenty of sun, but not so good for more variable light situations
- The tint is cool/blue which I don't personally like. I prefer neutral to warm tints on my shades.

Despite these negatives I kept them as they are a good value otherwise.

Edit: Mine are black gold ones.
Seriously, that same statement could be said about everything posted on this site. Is there ever a time when something is sold at a significant enough of a discount to warrant being posted here that doesn't have some reason for being on sale?
I have a similar pair of mountaineering sunglasses with side shields that I like to wear when it's very sunny and there's a lot of reflected light (nordic skiing, fishing, etc). Something important to keep in mind is these are polarized so you it's harder to tell the difference between snow and ice at a distance. I prefer non-polarized glacier glasses for this reason but these would be great for those who are GORP-core (*cough* me), spend more time in bright places with lots of reflected light, or want some more protection from the sides.

Chromapop is pretty awesome and I'm a fan. The color separating tech is becoming standard in the industry now and most brands have some treatment/filter/something that works similarly.

Edit: I'll add that I use glacier glasses for fishing, mountaineering, glacier travel, ice climbing, for bright environments, and the aesthetic. These are not the best for very high output activities (e.g., nordic, running), unless you are trying to prioritize lateral sun protection. I find the side-shades do cut down on air flow across the lens and lead to more fogging.

I got the smith hookset. It's by far the best polarized sunglasses I ever used. Everyone that tries it is amazed how well it cuts glare and sees through the water better than any other polarized glasses I ever tried. (That depends on the type of tint too) It also wraps well and secure while bouncing around on a boat or jet ski and the sides are covered blocking light. Also easy to wash.

I also have a lowdown 2 which I also love for casual use. My wife also has a pair.

All the smith glasses we have we highly recommend. The lenses are the best we ever had (we have rayban, tom ford, etc). We also got all of them for at least 50% off waiting for sales.

Dragon makes some glasses that float. They have nice lenses and most are polarized.

Got a pair of these the last time they hit the front page. They're like other Smith ChromaPop sunglasses in that they are very high quality and perform very well. NGL the northface puffy case were what sold me as I already have too many high quality sunglasses (thanks, eyedictive).
These fit me very well and the side shields really reduce the amount of light getting into my eyes. These feel like they will be very hot and not breath well during hot days. Thankfully, the shields are very easy to take off and put back on so that isn't a big deal.
Great deal for the price imo.

I bought these during the last sale for $56 and just took them on a two week vacation to Hawaii. Excellent for sitting on the beach and being on the water. Didn't use the side shields as they made them a bit too hot but think they'll be great for alpine adventures. Overall very pleased.

Check out the Smith website, they tell you the visible light transmission level of their sunglasses. Apparently the red ones let more light through than the gold ones: https://www.smithoptics.com/en_US...ASSES.html
