Personally I'd wait for the 9950X3D, best of both worlds, and AMD seems to have fixed the 7900X3D's stability issues
I don't get the point in spending $520 for the 9950x alone when for only $650 ($130 more) you could get the 9950x bundle with the MSI X670E MAG Tomahawk WiFi motherboard and G.Skill Flare X5 Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR5-6000 CL36 ram kit: https://www.microcenter.com/produ...ild-bundle

The motherboard's worth ~$180, and the ram's worth ~$70. Even if you're upgrading and already have both a motherboard and ram, you'd probably literally save money buying the bundle and selling the mobo and ram on ebay rather than buying the 9950x alone.
Additionally, assuming you're already on the am5 platform, I generally wouldn't recommend upgrading to zen 5 if you're already on zen 4. The only meaningful reasons to upgrade from zen 4 to zen 5 are if you're: a. upgrading from non-x3d to x3d; b. suddenly require far more cores than your current cpu has for newfound productivity workloads; or c. have extremely heavy avx512 productivity workloads, particularly on linux.

I've had a 7900x3d and a 7950x for a year...what instability issues are you referring to?

The ones they probably read about at launch, like core parking and scheduling, that have long since then have been addressed.

Weird how people just glossed over Intel having core scheduling issues in both 13/14th Gen. People really love to hate on AMD for no reason other than someone told them too.

I am using zen 2, should I upgrade to zen 5?

only if your using it to play games, I much prefer the $293 open box R9 9900X I picked up on sunday at my local microcenter.

Then don't buy it if the deal doesn't make sense to you?! Plenty of folks would pay more not to deal with MSI motherboards or perhaps more aggressive ram .. or don't want the hassle of flipping the board. You choose what works for you .. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
This deal is very good. I don't say this deal is bad. But I don't know the performance. Is it a big gap? What's problem with MSI motherboards?

TBH these are probably people who aren't even considering intel after the 13th/14th gen top tier chips (ones that would be compared vs the X3Ds) kept cooking themselves with no resolution for months. With that, if you're only thinking AMD you'd much more wary of the caveats that come w/ each chip at the time.

Definitely a killer deal to combo it together. I'm holding out for the x3d and hoping for a similar option through MC.

Right, I wanted more ram, and better ram. I also wanted better lane sharing and aesthetics for the motherboard.

I upgrade my CPU every 5 years. So maybe in 3 years this might be my CPU.
