I'd echo this. Lots of tech resellers sell these cheap that they got through office clean outs or tech refreshes. Also most dell docks don't support dual 4k displays due to a processing limitation- even if you use different port types. Their newer ones do.
The WD19TB works for dual monitor for m1 pro and above. But you can get them cheaper on eBay
This is a company that for many years have been artificially limiting their computers to work with only one external monitor... unless you opt for their Ultra Pro Max Plus Supra CPU and pay up.

I've read enough one star reviews of otherwise excellent peripherals from monitors to USB docks to external hard drives to know that Apple very often "just doesn't work". Apple users always blame this on the peripherals, not on apple, and give these great peripherals 1-star reviews... Just iDiotic.

Apple does a lot of things right. It's a shame (and pretty evil) that they intentionally kneecap the compatibility of their own devices in order to force you to buy everything Apple.

The only reason the US will never crack down on their monopoly (and on the monopoly of the other trillion dollar tech companies) is that they have successfully colonized and dominate the world with most of the profits accumulating in one country.

Interested to what makes a docking station (that's for general office use) not great? I'd say over 70% of office workers are working on 2 1080p monitors if that with a laptop that's 65w or so.
These docks flake out all the time.
I have them deployed throughout my employer and often a monitor or two will not connect. A power cycle fixes it, but it's annoying and happens often. That being said, I haven't found a trouble-free dock yet. I've tried numerous brands and they all seem to suck (or they are insanely high-priced).

I've got this, and the USB inputs recently died. One of the DisplayPorts drops signal periodically. I'm running 3x HD displays at 60Hz.

About 1/4th the time, 1 display will not receive signal after waking my laptop. The fix is to put it back to sleep and try again.

It's functional enough to me to not hassle getting the company I work for to replace it, plus they would probably replace it with the same thing and the same issues.

What's with all the Apple users complaining about this dock? This is not an Apple dock, you need to go buy one from Apple for your Mac. That's how Apple intended it. You should be buying only from them if you want to be in that ecosystem.

These Dell docks are for the rest of us in the computer industry who follow proper standards.

I was able to get this dock to work with my work provided Mac M3 pro. I used display link software to display on two monitors through the dock and the hdmi port on the right side of the MacBook to display to a third monitor. All three monitors even stay on when I open the lid to the laptop, making it essentially 4 displays at the same time. It took some trial and error, but the key is to boot up the laptop, login and wait like a few minutes before hooking up the usb-c cable to the bottom usb-c port on the left side of the laptop. This delay maybe due to the software from my company, but it's never failed in over 4 months since I figured out the trick.

We use these at my job for hybrid/remote workers. I thought they were good cause I'm a noob but i quickly realized they're not very reliable. I'm on my 3rd replacement but I have one more display port that still works so if that goes I'll move on to my fourth one. I don't have a choice cause i don't want to buy my own but i wouldn't recommend this product if it wasn't necessary
The dock might need firmware updates. Not a lot of people know since it's just a small little box. The thing that I hate is that a lot of docks require a Windows machine to update it even if they advertise that it works with Mac.

My job gave me a WD19 and I hate it. It works fine on my company provided Latitude but when plugging it into another laptop such as an Inspiron, it keeps reconnecting over and over. Even when it does work it has a very annoying coil whine.
Lol. You literally just said "This works for the intended purpose that my company provided it for but doesn't work for a non intended purpose I decided to use it for and I'm mad about it!"

I have the dock you mentioned and I cannot use 2 HDMI ports to output to two separate monitors. Is this some limitation in the dock or Mac book pro?

I have at least 70 of these at work and we've had two die over the course of 3+ years (one the internal fan died, one the video ports stopped working). Most of the monitor issues are fixed with a firmware update:

https://www.dell.com/support/home...-130w-dock

Per this page: Improved the display compatibility of WD19, WD22, and HD22 series dock between systems and monitors.

With all that said Dells TB24 is a all around better dock being Thunderbolt and backwards compatible to USB-C stuff but it's also more expensive.

i would be interested in knowing a little bit more. I was under the impression that DisplayLink needs USB to HDMI adapters... were you able to use the normal 2 HDMI/DP ports on the dock with DisplayLink ...

I have one mini dp from monitor to dp on the back of the dock. Then one hdmi from monitor to hdmi on the back of the dock. Then of course hdmi to hdmi on the side of the laptop. Hope this helps.

thanks, i was under the impression that apple mac book support only 1 external monitor natively, and people use dispalylink to get an additional monitor ...

This, I work in IT and these Dell docks need to have their firmware updated about twice a year. They also need drivers for audio and Ethernet. Go the Dells website and go to support- drivers/ downloads type in your dock model number.
