Good series overall - I'm on the final book - however they go downhill after book 1

I just discovered I had previously bought Book 1 in March 2020 and have not read it, probably when it was on slickdeals! So now I have two and can start with the first one! Thanks OP!

Agreed. Worth a read for scifi fans, but there are better books in the genre

Books 1 and 2 in this series were amazing I thought. 3 was not really my thing. Might read 4 one day but I'm not in a rush.

The first book is probably the best sci-fi book I've ever read (that or Dune). Book two is still fantastic. I still haven't read The Book of the New Sun though.

I've tried to read the first book in the series twice now, but I just can't get into it. All the reviews indicate this is like one of the best science fiction books of all time, but I just don't get it.

The first book is a great setup. This second book is a decent but not great payoff (be ready for handwaving and things never explained). The third book is bad. The forth book is terrible.

Tried to read this. Twice. Didn't get far either time. I don't see the appeal.

lol. That's exactly what happened with me. I too have literally started it twice. Then about mid-way I got bored and gave up. I've heard so many good things about this book that I'll probably try again. Someday.

Book 1 and 2 are masterpieces that sneak up on you. I too wasn't sold at first, but about halfway into 1 it really sunk its claws into me.

I've read all the books and enjoyed them. Finished them probably 3-4 years ago and still find myself thinking about them fairly often. Definitely worth your time to give it a try.
