Do yourself a favor and get an aluminum version. Academy has them on sale for about this, but they usually are $30 more. They are MUCH easier to mount solo, and they are rated for 750lbs...

I spent $110 on this exact one awhile back and have zero complaints
If using for travelling and you don't have somewhere to store it after you get to your destination, or if where you're going has bad parking, get a type that folds. Makes parking much more manageable.

Protip -- make a color copy of your tag and Gorilla Tape it on the back to avoid trouble. Most cops won't pull you over for an obstructed plate but I know several people who have had that happen. It doesn't solve the illumination issue but for daytime use it can help show conscientiousness.

If going cheap why not just go with a harbor freight for $45? The "add ons" are nothing special unless they happen to be the exact type of things you need for your carrier. If I were spending this much I'd go with a name brand option.

I have this and can confirm it's great. I use it on my midsized crossover. I like it a ton better than on the roof with the worry of it being on the roof and the noise of wind resistance.

I use totes from Costco and ratchet it down super tight. Didn't move so much as an inch on 500+mile drives.

The one issue albeit minor is it does bottom out on speed bumps and some inclines but that's probably more to do with how low my cuv is.

Just be sure to check the height of the container after installation. I had this and didn't notice the rack and container was in line with exhaust of the SUV. Which burnt a whole in the container and melted cargo inside after the 10 hour trip from northern to southern California.

Also had this happen, melted a wheel off my cooler. I'm much more careful with where cargo goes on these now.

Don't tell the 80IQ cop you were striving to demonstrate conscientiousness. He may just write you a ticket for talkin fruity.
