Just started playing this on the PC the other day and there's a very slow start to the game (lots of cut-scenes,) but if you stick with it, it's a great deal of fun.
70+ game hours later: "I don't want this game to end..." *buys Infinite Wealth*

From what I understand, all the previous Yakuza up until this one follow the same main character, Kiryu. This game introduces a new main character (Kasuga) and storyline although many characters from previous games still appear (this was my first Yakuza game). The sequel, Infinite Wealth, follows this game's characters/story.
Additionally, this is turn based and the earlier Yakuza are real time hyper intense fighting.

I know that I'm going to have to buy Infinite Wealth as soon as I'm done with this...

Yakuza 0 - 6. Brawlers focusing on Kiryu.
Like a Dragon: turned based RPG with a new protagonist, Kasuga. It references events from earlier games, but is fine as an entry point
Like a Dragon Gaiden The Man With No Name. Brawler focusing on Kiryu again. Take place at the same time as Like A Dragon
Like a Dragon Infinite Wealth. Turn based with both Kasuga and Kiryu. I've heard it's best to play the other Kiryu games for a more impactful story, but not essential.
Like a Dragon Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. Brawler focusing on Majima, who is a major character in the Kiryu games and is playable in Yakuza 0
I've dabbled in the brawler entries, but haven't been able to get into them. I may give them another try because I am playing Like a Dragon right now and loving it
