Bought one of these previously. They are a blast. N64 support is hit or miss, but PS1 and below play great.

You will want to have a new actual branded SD card, and load with ArkOS. Instructions here: https://joeysretrohandhelds.com/g...tup-guide/

I got this for my 4 year old. He loves playing platformers, so I loaded it up with some classics plus Pico 8. I don't have to worry about microtransactions or him seeing something sketchy on YouTube, but I also don't have to sit right there watching his every move.

There are lots of options out there, but at this price point this is one of the more powerful cheap devices. To get something better you're looking at 60-75$.
This is a pretty solid and fast synopsis of a variety of options. 20 devices, 1 minute per device.

Basically, any device will handle PS1 and below fine, and they're quite affordable.

Then, for quite a bit more money you can add some GameCube and PS2.

Then, for even more money, you can add very strong GameCube and PS2 performance, and some Switch.

Retrocatalog.com is a good resource for basic stats like you were hoping for.

Hoping the 3.5" screen isn't too small for my aging eyes but can't beat the price

It comes preloaded with a lot of games. One of the reviewers mentioned here on YouTube said too many. Seems to be good to go out of the box. I'm new to these retro handheld and this seems like a good entry point.
I can't count them, but there are 1000's lol. There are consoles on there I've never heard of, so some quantity over quality for sure.

Please bear with me.... Are these units preloaded with games or do I need to buy these retro games or are they available online?

Does anyone know how to reset back into the game selection without doing a full unit reset? All the key combinations I found don't work. I can get back into retroarch with a four button press, but can't then get back into the game selection menu.

The games are all pretty much the same. There are more expensive units here that may play more demanding games - have a read back through the thread. But for casual stuff this thing can't be beat
