I mainly use it when I go on vacation trips. I think it's totally worth it even tho I only used it about 4 trips.
The best thing about it is that you can just leave it on 360 view recording while you do activities and then go back to the video and edit/clip the moments. Like for conventional recorders, you need to point/manually focus the attention to the action and hope to capture all of it but with the 360cam, it just records everything around it. So it basically captures all those action moment in the 360cam without you needing to personally look for it during recording.
Highly recommend using the pc software for better range of mouse and keyboard editing. tho the phone app is not bad but I'm just more comfortable with pc setup.
Accessories I recommend you getting:
- Get the 2 or 3 extra battery. This enable you to have near full day uptime on recording without worrying to recharge. There's a bundle pack that comes with like a 1 or more batteries + charge station
- Get one or more 1tb micro sd card. I got one that I almost fill up on my 7 day vacation. I was nearly recording every moment.
- Get the official insta extendable selfie stick that can turn to tripod option on the handle portion. It's great to have when you want to leave it at place and keep recording while you do things and don't need to hold on to it.
- Get the waterproof case if you plan to go into deepwater (more than 10m). It was great for me when I went snorkeling underwater and during whale shark tour in Philippines.
optional:
- The audio is pretty good on the camera but the sound capture will origin from where the camera is located. So incase you want to capture clear audio from like a interview setting, you want to get that insta audio adapter that can plug in external mic. Then I recommend to get the wireless Dji mics
- There's those floating extendable selfie stick for water activities or just get the Camera Wrist Strap, Adjustable Nylon Hand Wrist Straps Lanyard with a 1/4" screw to attach it to that original selfies stick it comes with.
- There's those typical camera mounts packs, like to backpack, head mount, chest mount etc if you want hands off but the selfie stick is still the best route due to the ability the camera can make the selfie stick turn invisible in the recordings.
It does cost quite a bit. Think around $600~, after all the extra accessories I bought. But I think it's worth it because all the precise moment it captures without me needing to worry about focusing the camera/attention at x times. It just let me turn it on and record 360 and then later edit the videos to find/clip the moments it capture.
I wish I have the X4 because it came out like 1 year after I bought my X3. The X3 is only 4K max on the 360 but the X4 can do 8K. The video resolution is so good that you can make still frames and use it as camera shot. It's still has crisp and clear due to the 4K for my X3. But with the X4, it can do even better, at 8K.

Hope this one can last longer.
The point I was trying to get across was that even with those dual 4K sensors, each lens provides that sensor a very wide-angle hemisphere. And as such any time you want a more traditional video or action cam focal length/aspect ratio, it's going to be cropped down from 4K (or 8k coming from the full sphere)

I did film an event in a school gym and it shut down after overheating. However I did have the capture set to max, 8k 30.
It is kind of gimmicky however not having to frame while skiing with 2 kids was very good, you won't miss anything. The resulting video was really good. The fish-eye was not really noticeable.

There are some options for point and click modes on the such as photos and panoramas but for videos expect to spend some time editing if you plan on sharing the videos or using them in a non VR manner.
The great thing about the camera is it records everything, you can make alot of different videos from one recording just by reframing what you want to look at.
My only issue is that if you plan to be out and about for awhile, be sure to bring a power bank to charge the camera between shots or carry a spare battery. Max res 360 video eats away at the battery pretty hard.
it does overheat when using the 4K recording mode, perhaps next gen would fix it, I knew the issue before buying it but it's a big improvement over the last gen, and it fits our needs for recording.
I also did a lot of YouTube comparisons with the DJI handheld, this one does everything I wanted to do.
if you need it buy it, if not, wait for next gen
With that said, editing on the app is simple and quick. You can quickly focus on a specific subject, follow it, and export a quick clip. Or you can bring it into DaVinci and with a free plugin edit it with ease in DaVinci. If your goal is to never post process, then it's not the camera for you. If you want the flexibility that the 360 offers and are ok with a couple minutes of effort in the app for simple clips, then it's probably for you.
For my situation, a 360 camera has enabled me to always be fully in the moment during important family events. I'm able to turn it on and forget about it, knowing that it's there capturing memories I'll be able to revisit anytime in the future. When I have time and I'm in the mood, I'll work through some of my favorite events and put together well cut family movies. I usually save this for the wintertime. And it's resulted in so many great memories captured that otherwise I would never have gotten, or I only would have achieved if I played an active role filming instead of enjoying the moment.

completely agree with you re the utility of this camera.
I upgraded from the X3 to X4 last year, I think the X3 is the sweet spot if you can find it for cheap. X3 is 90-95% of X4 but for much less money if you can still find it.
