I owned two Hoover Power Scrub Deluxe carpet cleaners before buying this model from Amazon just last month. The first time I bought the Hoover Power Scrub Deluxe was in 2016 when we brought home a puppy. I did a lot of research and I thought it was the best option at the time. It lasted 5-6 years before it stopped turning on altogether. It did its job but was extremely time consuming and the upholstery attachments were a joke because they didn't have the suction power to actually suck the dirty water back out of the furniture. I ended up investing in a highly reviewed Bissell upholstery cleaner that I use all the time and works fantastic. Still, when the upright Hoover finally died, I began researching available products again and found that it was still one of the top reviewed mid-range models out there so I invested in a second. That one broke within less than a year. I am mechanically inclined and took everything apart to see if I could repair it and found a broken plastic gear. I attempted to make it with again but the gear was such low quality and brittle plastic that it immediately broke with the first use.
Having invested that money in two Hoover Power Scrub Deluxe models in 7 or 8 years just to have them die because of the cheapest of cheap parts that couldn't be replaced was maddening.
I began researching again and I finally broke down and ordered this Bissell Big Green and couldn't be happier. Knowing that they sell all of the parts to easily repair these should they break is a major peace of mind for me after the disaster of Hoover garbage I spent money on.
Not only does this have much larger tanks so you aren't constantly stopping to empty/refill but it has the suction power to actually do the job of getting the dirty water back out in a much faster time.
The upholstery attachment is every bit as good, if not better, than my small Bissell upholstery cleaner.
On top of all of this, I bought Hoover carpet cleaning solution for years thinking that I was getting the right stuff for the job. Every time I cleaned carpets, it would smell like a pack of cigarettes in the room even though nobody has ever smoked around these rugs and carpets. The Bissell carpet cleaning solution immediately gave off a fresh scent of clean laundry.
Is this a big investment? Yes. Would I buy the cheaper models again if given the choice? Absolutely not. The difference is that dramatic. Now, don't get me wrong, the Hoovers did their job with carpets and rugs (while they worked) but the added expense of having to buy a working upholstery cleaner on top of two carpet cleaners that are not repairable didn't make it worthwhile at all. The time consuming nature of the Hoover model I had was so aggravating that it was a massive time commitment to truly clean a room or rug. It will never be a fast process to get things deep cleaned but at least this Bissell makes it more effective and at a faster speed.
The pros absolutely outweigh the cons (for me, personally) and I only wish I had invested in this sooner. At the risk of sounding like a plant here to, shill I'll stop here. Feel free to ask any questions if you have them. I have house guests coming tomorrow and have actually been running this thing all over the house this last week so I'm just fired up about it lol.
I have two young children, three dogs, and a cat. Asking myself if this would be used often enough to justify the cost.

I've read the shark carpetxpert doesn't have this issue? Or should I just splurge and get this for bi-annual cleanings? I have 2 kids

- The instructions tell you to dilute the detergent into the clean water bin. Don't do this. Just spray the detergent onto your rug/carpet directly and let it sit 15 mins. Then only use water in the clean bin without detergent. The carpet/rug comes out cleaner this way and greatly reduces detergent remaining.
- Go slow and consistent forward and backward motion
- For each area, make your final motion as a pull motion. This is very important.
- What I mean by that is under the machine, from closest to you to farthest, is sprayer, then brush, heating, then wet vac.
- If your last motion is a push, then the last machine action is spray water. This will leave your rug wet.
- If your last motion is a pull, then the last machine action is wet vac. This will pull up the water along with dirt.
Hope that makes senseThe waiting trick will work on other sites as well by the way. For example, I placed a hard drive in my Best Buy cart and 12 hours later a 15% offer showed up in my email.
About the cleaner, I decided to make the purchase despite my misgivings. ($300 for a huge chunk of plastic definitely made my Cheap Basterd Sense tingle.) The 5-year warranty, excellent reviews, and the approximate $60 in cashback shenanigans are what ultimately convinced me.
Now I need to research creating a cheap homemade carpet cleaning solution, as I don't think my Cheap Basterd Heart can handle spending any more on this cleaner for a while. Maybe 1/3 vinegar, 2/3 water, and a decent squirt of Dawn will do the trick? I'm a bit worried, though, that the acidic nature of white distilled vinegar might damage the water pump and plastic hoses over time...

I downloaded the app and it had 11%. That was good enough for me to buy this morning. Idk why the 14% wouldn't show up, I even did it on two different browsers (chrome and Firefox). I need a deal on carpet cleaning solution now...

I have the same Bissell, and what I do to get around the section issue is to ride it like a scooter. I stand on the opposite side of the unit from normal, put one foot on the head of the unit, and the other foot on the floor. Then I push the shampooer across the floor using a technique that's a bit like riding a scooter. Even with a lot of weight on the head of the shampooer, it takes multiple passes before the unit stops sucking up a significant amount of water. I should mention that I'm pretty conservative with the number of passes that I do where I'm putting down fluid; I really try to keep that to a bare minimum because I know how much work it is to vacuum up the remaining fluid.
Using the Bissell in this manner is time consuming and tiring, but it does get the carpets quite dry and cuts down on the issue of leaving dirty fluid in the carpet.

After watching some videos of the shark carpet expert, it is not something I would choose. Initial model, but one person said that when the solution splashes around, it ends up spraying out of the unit and onto the walls. I neither love nor hate the shark brand as a whole, but I would give them a few more years to refine their design before I consider buying a carpet cleaner from them.

Interested in inexpensive / homemade options as well. I don't recall if it was here or elsewhere I saw the suggestion to pre-spray your carpet with treatment and then go over it with just water in the carpet shampooer.
I think we're in the same parsimonious boat when it comes to carpet solution. After spending so much, I'm not about to throw additional money down the drain buying detergent for awhile. When I have some free time, I'll do a bit some half-ars research on homemade alternative detergents. Maybe even high-efficiency laundry detergent will work; I don't know. I believe the cleaner comes with three free small bottles of detergent however, at least based on all the unboxing videos I've seen.
You need to pretreat, especially bad spots. Don't be afraid of spending money on good pretreat solutions. Bissell makes some good ones. That said for the bulk of carpeted areas, I've been using zep brand products from HD and they work great and are inexpensive.
Usually I pretreat an area with a pump sprayer and hot water with either carpet shampoo or a specific pretreatment (like ones for pets). I let that sit then go over the area with the vacuum but with the vacuum reservoir off. This allows you to lay down more solution while working it into the carpet with the beater bar but not sucking it back out immediately. For the solution get screaming hot tap water with whatever shampoo you use.
I generally go over the area twice in different directions this way.
Suctioning the carpet solution out is easy, but I make sure the clean water tank is full as the heavier unit will compress the carpet more and lift more of the solution out. I go over the area again twice with the vacuum canister on, in different directions and overlapping passes about 50%.
You will probably have to do an area 2-3 times before the solution starts to come out cleaner depending on how bad it is to start off with.
The vacuum will likely leave a bunch of dust bunnies all over the place but just let them dry and use a regular vacuum. This stuff is hair, lint and loose carpet fibers. You'd be amazed at how you'll still get loose fibers after doing the same area of carpet several times.
All in all a great unit and invaluable if you have any sort of large carpeted area in your home.
