Make sure to invest in induction compatible cookware to get full use out of it, if you don't have it already. Also a bit of patience in learning and getting used to induction cooking, for those trying it for the first time. Other than that, it's a solid product. I bought it for $40 in 2022, still going great.

This is a cheap introduction to evaluate whether induction is your jam. For me, induction hobs like this were a gateway drug.

I now have a Frigidaire range with four induction burners topside.

120v * 15A is 1800W. 15A circuit is fine, since this doesn't count as a continuous load.

Not in my experience, the most infuriating aspect about these induction cooktops is how often it trips my breakers, and I'm on 20A circuits. You're always playing a game with where you can plug it in and how high you can run it before the lights go out.

would love to get this, but I don't want to buy all new cookware. I have forged or formed aluminum with coatings. Latest set is by pioneer woman so I don't think it works with this. This would work well for those like me with no air conditioning in the summer but want to cook still.

So glad we switched from our gas range to induction! We also have a separate single unit, similar to this one, but a different brand. I use it to sear steaks and other things after I have smoked them on the smoker. They are super fast! Super accurate in their settings, and in my opinion, absolutely worth a new set of cook pans. If you want to know if your cook pans will work or not, all you need to do is get a magnet. If a magnet sticks to the bottom of the pan, you're good to go! I highly recommend induction overall.

I went to Goodwill with a magnet and tested their pots and pans to see if any will work on an induction cooktop. I found a good saucepan. I also found a small frying pan at Ross for $10

The Amazon reviews say it's "painfully slow" to boil water. That means it's not anywhere near 1,800W.

It gets 4.1 stars on Amazon...

I have 20A circuit in my kitchen and I almost NEVER have any issues. I often have induction (not this model) going at 1800W + Coffee maker all the time in the morning without much issues.

There was a previous poster who tried (and mostly failed) to express the same idea that water boils quite slowly with this unit.

I bought induction YEARS ago because I was being cheap about how much heat regular burners were putting out. I was living in an apt at the time with PROPANE. It sucked. Using induction really helped! Saved $$$ on cooling during the summer.

Now that I am in a home, I have glass electric countertop. I did a side by side vs induction. It boils water moderately faster, too. So.... I rarely use the stove , just my baby induction stove lol.

If you cook a lot, induction is worth it alone to save time on boiling water..............
Heating/cooling costs as well, but that is less easy to measure.

Yep that is very small and will cause very inconsistent temperatures. A very hot 4 inch inner center, and much colder all around. Unless you only want to cook something like a burger in the very middle it would be quite hard to get the desired temps.

I was going to comment that answering this question would require really digging into the user manual. As you point out, there may be an auto-shutoff after some period of inactivity. I think most countertop induction burners have auto-shutoff if it gets too hot, and when it triggers also depends on how accurately it can measure temperature. On the other hand, I've read people say that induction burners are not great for low temperatures (e.g. for slow cooking). On the other other hand, some induction burners actually have a "slow cook" setting.
