I have purchased 3 Dell Refurb laptops, all still work. I have used refurbed Dell desktops since the early 2000s. Never had an issue, they all worked fine for at least 5 years.

One failed about one month after the 90 day warranty. Dell Refurbished was blunt about no exceptions. The second one lasted longer but also failed in less than one year. Together, we've lost almost $600 due to these system board failures.
If you check Dell Communities (support), Reddit, etc., you'll see that Dell shipped thousands of these to corporates and govt agencies. Many I.T. managers commented that they shipped so many back to Dell due to system board failures.
The Latitude 7-series seems to have less issues. Other Dell Refurbished products like desktops and monitors escape these issues because they're not moved around a lot and don't have so many past users/owners. (I still haven't taken in our two Dell Latitudes to the electronic recycling depot. It's difficult to throw away $600.)
YMMV.

Wow. I am sorry to hear this happened to you. I have opposite experience with Dell Refurbished. I have purchased both laptops and desktops from them, and none have had "Fed Ex" labels, nor have any of them had issues. In contrast, my wife bought HP laptops NEW and they both failed within 2 years. One had a hinge problem that was fixed and then broke again... HP has audacity to call it "normal wear and tear" when the hinge was so screwed up it BROKE the case.
Anyhow... Hopefully these refurbs are "done" by Dell and not Fed Ex. I have read many bad things about Fed Ex refurbs, even the ones marked "Grade A"... Anyone know how to confirm? If someone has already received theirs, please post your thoughts and findings...
Did you get your device yet? Does it have the green Dell refurbished sticker on the back, or does it say Fed Ex?

Google's StreetView shows it with a sign "FedEx Supply Chain Solutions". You're not really buying from Dell. The people don't even work for Dell. You're buying from a partnered refurburishing sub-contractor with continual lower-cost pressures with its contract arrangement with Dell: https://www.vestedway.c
To be transparent, I have purchased over a dozen laptops and monitors off DellRefurbished over the years. Only had 1 monitor go bad and it was after the warranty period, so I was screwed. The rest of the machines work great, though. That said--and from other testimonial--the machines you get from here don't seem to be any better than your luck of the draw off eBay.
I've since stopped purchasing hardware from DellRefurbished once I hopped on eBay and saw the prices weren't any different.
5420DEAL
AND the prices have gone up. A 5420 with i7 processoer is about $319 now, before taxes.

Upgraded it with a Samsung 990 Pro hard drive and to 32 gb of RAM. It's flying fast and working like a champ.
