Mixed reception at the time, now thought of as being pretty bad. Just the core series will be pretty anemic without all the surrounding storylines from the other parallel series.

That's a good point. I read it as it came out and bought every issue involved in the crossover. Just reading this tpb without having the rest of the stories would be a completely different experience.

A historical curiosity I only realized in hindsight, the character Nitro is like a C-list villain at best, and yet he's both responsible for the death of Captain Marvel [wikipedia.org] and the impetus behind Civil War. Go figure.

I agree, the main story without the tie ins is pretty mid. At the same time, it's hard to pass on physical media of such a historically important comic event for just $10...
