There have been cheaper 4070 laptops, but they either have noticeably inferior displays, weaker processors, or gimped 4070: for example, HP Victus for $899, MSI Sword for $999-$1099, Legion 5 for $899-$999.

How realistic is it to wait for a 4080 laptop deal soon? I missed out on the Lenovo legion 4080 and 4090 on eBay that you posted

You could've checked before copy pasting the link that is the product even available, because it is not. Out of all the states it's only available at one.
Secondly, that's a 14" vs 16" over here. Two completely different size classes. The answer lies to what size you prefer. This would have better thermals than the Neo.
The two CPUs are pretty comparable in terms of single core and multi-core performance.. Both laptops have nice screens per the spec, but this Nitro is 16" and about 6lbs and the Predator at MC is 14.5" and 4 lbs. Both laptops have enough ports although the Nitro has it's USB-C and power ports on the back of the laptop.
Acer Nitro:
- Upgradeable RAM.
- Available online
Acer Predator:- Soldered LPDDR RAM limited to 16GB
- Probably better battery life when not gaming.
- Smaller and more portable.
- In store MC only

For me the choice comes down to1) Light and portable vs larger screen?
2) Is 16GB RAM enough?
16GB is often enough as long as you don't mind closing out other applications (and all your browser tabs) when you run demanding games. If you know that you'll be using applications that require more than 16GB, you will wan to go with the Nitro and upgrade the RAM to 32GB or 64GB.
On the other hand, if 16GB is enough RAM and you prefer a lighter, more portable machine, then the Predator is appealing for better battery life and a newer CPU.
I have a 16" Acer Nitro with 7840HS and 4070 with the same QHD screen. It games well and the screen gets very bright. It is not super portable, but it does usually last 6-8 hours on battery if I'm not using the 4070GPU.

It does, just further down the page.. "Up to GeForce RTX™ 4060", but it's referring to the series, not this specific unit. The specs tab states 4070 however.
Hmm, available open box for 1019, tempting.
