The two MacBooks that I have purchased in the past for micro Center have been refurbished by Apple.
It's certified refurbished, you are most likely not finding anyone to price match that.
For the right person who needs this much RAM, it seems like a hell of a deal

My first Mac was a "refurbished" one from Microcenter. It was actually an open box customer return. The sales man said that on those they test them and then reload the OS. On mine the original owner only had it for 3 days. Saved me $400 off a new one and lasted me 9-10 years if I remember correctly. Still carried the original Apple Warranty as well and still qualified for the 3yr Apple Care warranty as well. Only issue I had was the HDD died after 6 years. It was a spinner so I swapped it with a SSD.

Each company has a different definition of refurbished.

This is a late 23 model, but still a bangin deal for the right person.

I've got a hunch these are probably Apple certified refurbished units. I bet these might be units Apple prebuilt and had them at the ready to ship but never ended up selling so now they're unloading them and Microcenter went and gobbled them up. Possibly demo units or a company bought a bunch with this configuration and ended up returning their entire inventory.

Wow, this is actually pretty tempting -- quite a lot of machine at a reasonable price (for an Apple anyhow). Having enough RAM and fast flash are what make a notebook "last" longer i.e. keeping the notebook usable longer. More RAM hides the bloat slowdown from OS upgrades, and hides the sluggishness of a CPU over time (i.e. just compared to having a newer / faster / wider CPU).

My previous 2013 MBP lasted me 9 years (and only died through a power supply repair mistake of my own). I'm currently on the original MBP m1 Max with 32GB RAM / 2TB flash, so this would be a upgrade on hardware thread speed (but not necessarily much better overall).

I usually use my current laptop for email and web browsing and saving photos. Would this computer work for that or should I get the M4 version?

It would be extreme overkill. Would recommend an Air if you value portability.

You can get the base m4 pro refurb for $100 less on eBay . 512gb ssd and 24gb ram but a faster machine overall. If you don't the need the 36gb ram I would def go for the m4 pro.

Bought my M1 Max refurbished from them about 2 years ago and it's still going strong. Called Apple support and was allowed to add applecare service to it by providing the receipt.
