Non-inverters are on and off machines. They always draw the maximum current. Either they are on or off. Every time the compressor turns on, it also affects other appliances because they have to use huge current to kick start the compressor. They maintain the desired temperature by turning off and on. No way to tell the compressor to just run at 25% to maintain desired temperature.
On the other hand, the inverter compressor versions is adjustable. It can draw as low as 100w just to maintain the desired temperature setting. I have this AC but with heater and by average, it draws 200-400w blowing just the right amount of cold air. If it's too hot, or you put it to maximum compressor speed and full fan speed, it can draw up to 1300w.

Take this FWIW. Asking on the questions page if it covers things not purchased from Amazon it says yes, if the plan is purchased within 30d. When asking if it covers renewed or refurbished, it also responds stating it covers refurbished items.
Looking at the official policy guide for the warranties the only thing that could be an issue is this line, although it says "or" not "and", and it does have an in store return policy it won't be covered, but it does have a 90d store return policy which seems to make this warranty valid:
Products not originally covered by a store return policy or Manufacturer's Warranty, e.g., floor models;

If you do go this route, the amazon page says the plan can be returned within 30d, but I would wait until day 28 or so to buy. That would give you nearly 2 months to test it out and be able to return both the unit and the warranty if you decide you don't want it.
You made a good case, and I too saw the line about "Products not originally covered by a store return policy or Manufacturer's Warranty, e.g., floor models;", and read it the same way you did. However I couldn't find a "Yes" when I tried to ask about purchases outside of Amazon. Where did you see that?
I wish it was the case, and I don't blame you for trying. I see from your subsequent post that you purchased a plan. From what I just learned over the phone from a live person, I would suggest you cancel it.
Here's hoping our units work as promised. I just took delivery this week of a LG 14000 BTU window unit from Amazon, which looked like it had been kicked in on both front and rear. The cooling fins were dented in multiple places and the entire unit sat crooked inside the chassis, which had buckled from a drop. I returned it, even though Amazon offered me $150.00 off.

AI search reply: "A study found that UPS delivered the highest percentage of damaged packages at 11%, followed by USPS at 10%, and FedEx at 7%"
I just read in the Midea manual that these units are Matter enabled, which is a pleasant surprise. I had just seen them advertised as Alexa and Google Home compatible.
You need a Matter hub for Apple Home, and I recently got a HomePod mini for that purpose for my smart bulbs cause my Apple TV 4K was too old.
So I guess I can then tell Siri to turn AC on and off, and set the temperature, which I might use when I'm alone, which is most of the time. I had a neighbor over the other day and had to tell Siri to turn my lights on; I felt like an idiot.

Edit: Nope... Still out of stock.
gonna pull it out carefully after some photos and verify it functions and all that.
. UPDATE:
the box was not in horrible shape but not in great shape either. kind of look like something slashed into one of the wide sides of the box. also when trying to lift the unit with the box everything popped off the bottom, but that may have just been user error.
there is a noticeable mid to high pitch noise coming out of the unit that sounds like it's related to the condenser being on. putting it into fan mode doesn't have that noise. the noise is honestly kind of annoying, but once the unit gets going I think the noise stops or surrounding noise is loud enough that you can't hear it anymore. I'm pretty sensitive to noise issues so I feel like I would notice it if it was still actually going on.
no error code and it's blowing cold.
I think overall this was a win

Or this one:

Ordered the 4 year to get the full terms, then will try to call/register. Worst case have 30d to cancel.
*Edit* showed up on my allstate account. I uploaded the Walmart receipt and now it shows as active. Will read through the fine print when home.

"We may, at Our discretion, require You to submit pictures (and, if Your Product is a major appliance, audio or video) of the damage or defect for which You are making a claim, or to submit other necessary documentation to process Your claim."
There is also no mention of "refurbished" or "renewed" in the T&C. I'm sure you read it yourself.
This is also something I took note of:
What is Not Covered:
"o. Claims made under any improperly or incorrectly purchased Protection Plan;"
When I go to https://Walmart.com/protection, and then click on "Your Account", I get the message "Sorry, it looks like you don't have any eligible products.", even though the Midea is in my "purchase history". But this is probably because it is still in transit. If the plan was required to be linked as an option at the time of purchase, then why do they offer them separately? The 3 year is in my cart now.
I might take a shot on the 3 year "Appliance" plan. Funny though, we win the case only in our minds now as to whether we are eligible to buy this plan for the Midea. As you well know, the insurance provider holds all the cards when it comes time to honor a claim. It also seems logical, and legally sound, to assume that if a claim were denied because the warranty never applied, a refund should be issued. Good luck with that though, right?
BTW, I read there is no "registration" for these warranties. They just go into effect when purchased (hopefully). They also don't send you a policy, if I read things correctly. It's just the "Terms and Conditions". https://www.squaretrade
I read all the 1 star reviews last night on Costco. Then, to bring me out of the depression that caused, I read all the 5 stars, haha.
Since I got burned just last week on my returned, damaged during shipping LG, I'm apprehensive. I live in the Mojave desert, where I'll be giving the Midea a real workout when it hits 120° this summer. It's 91° now, hitting 93° later today.
Thanks for the info.
If someone who has received their unit reads this, I'd appreciate it if you would go to https://Walmart.com/protection and then click on "Go to your account", and let me know what if any options it presents to you.

Many, however, don't seem to know how to operate the heat setting correctly, and have incorrect expectations about how the heat works, and its limitations. On the youtube installation video, online mankind is at its worst when people commented on how to install the window kit. People can be so ignorant.
I'm glad this (Costco exclusive?) unit is A/C only. I actually have high hopes for its functionality. How is yours doing?

I didn't use it yet. The heat is running right now lol and upper tm20's at night.
If it wasn't for the ridiculous installation fee, I will get the Mini Split Air Conditioner for the room above the garage.
