deal dead
Bro I think you need to build a server now. Go download true nas scale
Plex is good to have but if it works as file storage that's good enough for some old DVR recording I kept from back in the day like tv shows or movies I recorded with HDHomeRun

thanks for the link
Also eventually you will want to learn to create a HTTPS cert which trex talks about this so you dont get that stupid warning when logging through the browser. he made a video , its real easy. You will spend time learning this stuff , it can be quite daunting at first. synology makes it easy though vs qnap or any other nas on the market. They have the best security in the business

yes so you can access the browser using a name vs ip
thx for the link

.depends on your use case and the size of your pool which drives you are using . I am sure chat gpt can answer all your questions or ask on the official discord channel people are always there to help. Or you can invest in unraid which is a better alternative for you

the 224+ for around 250-280 is a great deal
if you want a better setup get the 923+ and then later add the expansion for another 5 bays
the 923+ will need the 10GB lan card , you can buy these on aliexpress and you can upgrade the ram cheap on amazon with generic ECC ram im sure.
I have a 224+ and i just use it right now for photo and file sharing backup.
it only pulls 15-20w , i upgraded the ram for 20 bucks to 18GB , i am sure i can run 1 VM
If you are going to spend this kind of money why not just go with unraid to make the ultimate plex /seedbox server with VMs
I use 24 bay supermicros on a rack. The biggest investment is your cache disks , you can do raid 0 and throw in a 10GB lan card . Use a intel cpu for onboard video for plex. Throw in some NVMEs later for VMs or fast storage for plex caching.
You can use any hdd size too. True nas is power hungry because the drives never go to sleep in the pool. My 400+ TB unraid server only pulls 150-200 w but right now i am seeding over 600 torrents haha so i have a few hdds not in sleep.
good luck
I still haven't gotten any shipment update from Amazon... I guess I should have bought from B&H

Got my shipment notification today finally. But I still haven't found any HDDs. Was thinking I could do 2 x 12-16tb for $100ish each but not looking likely. May only be able to get around 8tb for that price.
Constant storage warning/issues. Have offloaded all I can to externals in terms of music (I DJ so have a pretty big library of mp3's) but getting warnings and disk space errors all the time.
Just want to be able to store my Photos library somewhere else. But I also want to access full-res photos whenever I need from anywhere... which is why I have kept it on my macbook and not on an external. Although I guess I can always bring my external with me but doesn't seem ideal. I also don't want to offload to icloud - don't trust that like to keep the full res photos and videos.
Want simple solution. Would a plug and play (with minimal setup) NAS like this be the answer? Extremely overwhelming all the terminology and everything in these threads. I have an external SSD for Time Machine Backups as well as a Backblaze subscription backing things up.
Thanks.
