I have both arc and arc ultra there is no difference in listening experience.
Sonos subs are pretty damned good, but I found the sub mini gives just enough punch for most rooms. You'll want the full sized sub if you're in a large room or have an open floorplan.

The subs are expensive because they're 1/2 Sonos networking components and 1/2 huge driver. Regular subs don't have to deal with the networking stuff. Being able to plug the thing in anywhere without having to run wiring is the selling point.

That being said, there is a hack for a DIY Sonos sub- get a IKEA SYMFONISK speaker for $120 or less, wire your existing generic subwoofer to the speaker in it, and you'll have some extra rumble added to your Sonos setup. Here's an example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TiPPPu7j5DM

Why in God's name is the sub so expensive? For those that have it paired with this, is it somehow worth it?

Yeah, you have to have the right TV, media source, and room setup for the Ultra to really shine, but the Ultra isn't really worth the few $100 premium over the plain Arc. They're both top-tier soundbars, but the Arc will blow most listeners away just as well as the Ultra.

Arc underwhelmed me severely and I went with a non soundbar option. I didn't want to spend the extra on a sub

I made the switch few years back. Definitely an improvement for me.

If you have the room and want to run wires everywhere, a receiver/speaker setup will always be superior. Sonos customers just want easy setup with good sound and no clutter.

Just curious if you just played the soundbar or had the full sub and two satellite setup. I haven't seen that configuration underwhelm anyone Big Grin

We got this with the sub 3 years back. The combo is fantastic! The arc alone is nice but the two together are perfect for us.

I don't feel the need for a hard wired system.

I'm not an audiophile and I also have 2x One SL in the kitchen and it's nice to play both/either from my phone at any time.

Would highly recommend. This is a good price. I got a BF deal 3 years back for this at $650 I think

100% agree. I was disappointed with the Ultra, expecting much more. Yes, it does have better bass by itself, but how many people are using one w/o a subwoofer. It also has better highs, but less mid range. They did replace some full range drivers with just tweeters and use more DSP to try and balance out the sound. I'd argue that the original Arc puts out more sound overall at a wider range. I do have to turn the volume up higher on the Ultra to get the same output. It's just overly hyped minimal upgrades to keep Sonos relevant in the soundbar market.
My years older Sony HT-A9 blows the Ultra (and all soundbars) out of the water. If my living room was more conducive to the quad speaker setup, I would have switched long ago and never looked back. If Sony releases a Quad system with a center channel speaker (Quint?), then it's truly game over.

I just bought the Kef LSX II LTs from the Costco deal the other day. It will be used for a mix of music, games, but mostly movies. I live in a small 600 sq ft studio, so don't need to fill a big space. Is the Arc better for my use case?

Appreciate the follow up! What'd be a "good" price to lookout for? 🍻
I got mine for:
Subtotal
$799.99
Discount on Order
-$160.00

(It was gen 3 when that was current) Not saying its a good price or a steal but a good reference

This was back in 2023 from costco. It also came with streaming credits to that made the purchase hurt less.

The sonos refurb store has it for $639 and they are as good as new.

You also do not need the latest gen of the sub typically. I have a gen 2 and gen 3 although if you do want to have 2 subs in the same room (please check on this part- ) Then perhaps they need to be on the same gen. Mine are in different space.

Yes, you'd want to stand pat. If you would've upgrade the rears, you'd wanna upgrade the sound bar, and vice versa. I think I've heard that the upgrade is 20 to 25% better. So probably not worth a $2000 upgrade.
The biggest upgrade you could make is getting two Era 300's for surrounds. That will be a night and day difference and completely open up the height channels. The Arc by itself isn't enough for that. Get a pair on their refurb site. Their refurbs are indistinguishable from new. I would even argue that they are new and they are just clearing out inventory from time to time.

For the difference in price, yes. I got a beam last week cause my tv speakers on the E7 are kaput and the soundstage is very narrow compared to my arc. The beam goes back today.

If you do not like sonos at all then that is a diff matter and preferential but if you were buying their products, the arc is a step up and more cinematic. It might not shine with music as much but anything else it is capable. Just my thoughts from using the arc for 4 years now.
I also have cheaper older play 1s as surrounds... bought from previous sales/refurbs.

Just get one from ebay, you're not even going to look/see at it much. Personally, get two, you will only regret it if you live in a house that might crumble XD.

Its not just me, but a lot of people also online complain of arc dialog/voice so low. Regardless of how much fiddling i did with the setting. Also I read that ultra fixed this issue.

Is the app still a whole debacle? I've been a Sonos user since Play:1 was released and had initial new app issues. I was able to back out of it before my system was updated and required the new app, but I'm still blocking those updates. Are those initial problems fully resolved now? Or is there a list somewhere that is tracking where the new app is still suffers? I'm less concerned about UI, more concern about functionality like local libraries, reliability, etc.

It's slightly better because of all of the tweeters. There is a lot of unnatural DSP going on in this bar.

Ahh just bought this last week for $640. I already redeemed (and received) the wall mount.

Does anyone have experience with price adjustment from Costco? Website says you have to do it in the store you bought it from.
