This may be a great price if you want a new laptop and don't want a 40 series. We appreciate your posts but just post the deal their is zero need to defend the manufacturer. Gigabyte is known for middling just OK laptops nothing special at all. I would wait for a Lenovo deal or a Razer deal over any Gigabyte deal.
I never defended the manufacturer, but only the device posted here. Plus, every manufacturer has a smudge on their armor, ASUS fiasco, Lenovo Flex hinge issues, Samsung's cracked AMOLEDs display, HP and Acer customer service, etc. No manufacturer is clean, and you can't pain one's every product with the same brush.
Waiting for other brands' deals is perfectly fine and completely subjective. Currently, no other brand is selling this year's gaming laptop lineups at good discounts so far except for HP and Gigabyte, so if anyone wants to buy such a laptop right now, they don't really have many options left now, do they?

You seem very sensitive to critical comments about your posts. It's more than a point-counter point but ad hominem attacks. I have no objection to let folks share reviews and their opinions, even spurious sometimes. Keep up the good work with your posts- you are a valued SD'er!

I fail to see how exactly I, or my comments here, come across as "sensitive" when I am merely stating facts and contributing to the discussion to clear out the air and vague statements/info, which I have the complete right to. If the folks have the right to comment on a deal which I have posted then I have the complete right to defend it if I can, which I am with the correct facts and information. However, I have zero tolerance for spurious or baseless accusations and information as that devalues the post, poster, and the hard work they put in; especially when someone accuses me of making paid posts just because I am good at what I do as I do this merely out of hobby and my love for tech/laptops.
If doing this makes me come across as "sensitive" then so be it; the problem does not lie with me.

Thank you for that last comment, though. I appreciate it.

You seem super sensitive. You have over 15k posts so you fit the bill perfectly. It's not that deep.

I saw this and I didn't know if I was supposed to complain about the hefty price tag or complain that the other microcenter front page laptop for $800 doesn't have the same specs as this one.

I'd never spend this kind of, or any kind of, money on a Gigabyte laptop. But if you really want a 5080 in a mobile platform, you can't beat this price right now.

All right, I took a quick drive to store to see the difference. The 2699 one, has a raid zero configuration, so 1TB x 2. The 2499 one, has a single drive 1TB. I must've missed that on the website. But that solves the mystery. Oddly this has 1 Gen 5 NVME slot and 1 Gen 4 NVME slot. So I wonder what kinda drive you get with this. It would be sweet if they give you a gen 5 NVME but I doubt it.
I believe it is a modest gen4 drive getting roughly 5000MBps read/write in tests

The comments here are absolutely wild.

The "concerning cons" mentioned have little to do with this actual laptop and the OP was very much in the right to point that out.

Poor battery life on a *80 laptop is a universal thing which will not be specific to this laptop.

The 5080 performance vs the 4080 again has nothing to do with this specific laptop, and will apply to ANY laptop with a 5080 not just this one.

So the only real con is plastic on a laptop, but that isn't exactly unusual either and doesn't mean the laptop won't hold up. I'm still using a 1000 series Asus all plastic from 2018 and it has zero issues other than wear on some keyboard letters, for example.

The comments suggesting emotional responses or that the OP is being paid to comment are insane. He posts many of the laptop deals here and has done more than enough to prove his knowledge and that he isn't posting on behalf of this brand.

What concerning cons are we exactly talking about here?
  • "Middling battery life"? - It's a 5080 240Hz OLED gaming laptop, why would you expect it to have a long-lasting battery life in the first place? The fact this could even last around 5 hours is decent enough, given the specs.
  • "Plastic build disappoints for the price"? - Keeping in mind the $3199 retail price tag, however this is $2699 we're talking about right now. Also, in the description the reviewer states "That's not to say the build or design here is poor." I am sure you didn't even bother to read the text and just copy pasted the link after just reading the summary at the beginning.
  • "Modest raw rendering gains over RTX 40 series models" - They tested and compared this with very selective laptops, one of which was an 18" Razor Blade with 4080 and it was this model that could beat the 5080 but only in a few instances. In other instances "the RTX 5080 generally outperformed the RTX 4080 and performed similarly to the RTX 4090, though the 4090 scored slightly higher in many cases." Again, the reviewer only said this about "raw rendering".

I would advise you to first read and understand the complete thing before you share it.

I went to pick up the 2TB version today and found out that MicroCenter's site had the harddrive listed as 1x2TB SSD but the computer was actually 2x1TB drives.. Just so you know..
This was not what I wanted, so I didn't get it..
