That steam hardware survey gonna be swinging red slightly next month so nvidia is throwing crumbs with these craps 5070's suddenly in stock to keep the market share. They are sacrificing a tiny AI profit to keep the mind share. Don't give it to them greedy SOB's! 8 and 12 gb cards in 2025 is planned obsolescence in a very short period.
There is a reason the 5070 is the only modern GPU selling at MSRP.
yes, the 9070xt

It's my understanding that Steam's monthly hardware survey is incomplete and influenced Chinese Internet cafes. Steam's hardware survey is voluntary making it difficult to see true hardware used. Steam did report 2023 they would remove Internet cafe hardware survey data. Though there's no evidence they have based on Nvidia 3060 continued dominance.

Your statement,

"If you're expecting any card to be wholly relevant in 3 years regardless, you're already out of your depth and should switch to consoles."

Want to try to move those goal posts again, lol?

Dude, you're clearly getting overly offended.

As I said previously, "relevant" and "obsolete" are not the same thing.

Take it up with nVidia and AMD if you're that mad, but yes, your 3 year old card is no longer the talk of the town.

Do you honestly think enthusiasts are upgrading in 3 year cycles?

Surely not, when people like the one I responded to are moaning about 12GB of vRAM, when it's still plenty for every game out there to be run at more than reasonable settings.

And yes, if you have an issue with upgrading to keep up, switch to consoles. It will make your life a lot easier and you'll still get to play 80% of the games out there, since all the flagships are ports.

While, you aren't technically wrong its more so this card shouldn't be priced anywhere near $550. It doesn't compete well in its price/ performance category and more or less has a ~8% gain over its predecessor the 4070 (a 2 year old card).

If this card was sitting around $399-449 it would be fine. Its just been inflated w/ Nvidia tax, like when the 4070 launched (at not ideal reviews).
GPU prices are insane right now and have been for years and seeing how AIBs are asking 200-300usd premiums on their models is making the market a consumer nightmare.

If you do not need the nvidia suite AMD's 9070XT is a solid buy at MSRP. Otherwise, just wait for the 5060 and 9060's to drop and see where the market sways.

If anything we will start to see things drop back down to MSRP but I do not expect anything lower than that.
From personal experience this price is actually a bit better knowing that the tariff's kicked in and a 9070 non xt I purchased for a friend on launch day 3/6 was $549.99 at Microcenter but the same card today already shot up to $769.99.

If you're expecting any card to be wholly relevant in 3 years regardless, you're already out of your depth and should switch to consoles. The only thing driving the need for more vRAM in gaming is lazy development. Developers are literally upscaling their textures in batch using AI and not optimizing whatsoever. There's enough prevalent technologies that will make vRAM inconsequential, but they aren't being implemented. Because, again, lazy development. Look up Direct Storage, for instance.
That's funny...because my 7900xtx is just about 3 years old and is still plenty relevant and probably still will be for a while longer.

Some games, even at 1440p will get close to 12GB. 16GB really should be minimum, but as other have said exhaustively, with DLSS and FG, this card would be fine for up to 1440p 16:9 and maybe 3440x1440 widescreen. But it's not gonna be near as future proof as a 16GB card, assuming that you could even get one for a decent price. I lucked out with a 9070 16GB from Amazon but it was about $100 over MSRP.

Remind me again what you're doing with that 24GB of VRAM you think you need?

AI pictures?

The only thing more VRAM has done for gamers is let developers be lazy.

And it's not even solving all the problems they create when you give them crutches.

This. Even running local llm with smaller models is fine.

My 3080Ti 12gb is doing just fine

That's funny... I guess AMD just stopped releasing new cards, then right? What exactly are you having trouble understanding?Your card isn't the newest one out there. Nobody is saying it's obsolete. Therefore, it is no longer relevant to the context of having the latest and greatest, which is what the person I was replying to was complaining about. The reality is a ton of vRAM on an older card is not going to save you from processing demands that a newer GPU meets.
Far from obsolete, and I would definitely classify it as relevant...seeing as it's the card people are still buying en masse today because Nvidia can't get their shit together (7900xtx was the best selling GPU of 2024 and even in 2025 thus far). Oh, I'm running 60+fps at 4k on high settings, to your other point.
Alright, we get it - you're mad that underpaid, over-worked devs get to be "lazy". Deal with it because it is what it is now.
Everything aside - you sound like a bitter and unbearable person to be around, sheesh. Touch grass - get you a 7900xtx and you can still touch grass in 4k on high settings in 2025.

If you're intending on playing newer titles, yes, the newer card is the way to go.

It's not great that they dropped 32bit Physx support, but you have to remember that these are features AMD never even had when the game was new.

Also, adding a second card like a 4050 will still allow you to use 32bit Physx.

At least until the abstraction layer that will convert the 32bit calls to 64bit comes out. I guarantee someone is working on a patch right now.
Adding a 1030 will add an additional $80, while increasing heat, power and cutting airflow.

If a 4070 Super were available for the same price, I would choose the 4070 Super. Its crazy that the 5070 was released without any(or very little) performance increase from a 4070 Super.

I have a regular 3060. This should be a pretty good upgrade for me, yes? I started STALKER 2 the other day and it was not pretty.

I did buy a 5120x1440 monitor, which is pixel wise close to 4k, so I am a little worked that this 5070 is not going to be great.

I do fear the tarifs messing things up.

This is a good deal if you need a video card right now. There is no such thing as a bad video card, just a bad price. And $550 is not outrageous in the current market. Yes, the RTX 4070 Super has the same performance, but keep in mind, that card was selling for $600 MSRP. And the 5070 has a good 20% extra performance over the RTX 4070/RTX 3080 with faster memory. 16GB would be better for longevity, but since the PS5 is also limited to 12GB, this card will play all the console ports in the years to come with much better performance.

Yes, this should be a decent upgrade for you. The card is borderline at 4K resolution with DLSS. If you play Stalker at 5120x1440 you may not be able to max out all the graphics settings, but it will chug along fine with high/medium settings, especially if you play with DLSS. At least that was my experience with an RTX 4070, and this card is about 20% faster than that.
