Why is everyone anti-HP? Historic or current issues? Wirecutter recommends the color version of this model as their top pick, so I would think this to be decent.

My only grievance is with their instant ink subscription on their ink jet printers. I had an HP printer that had this subscription that initially was $1.99 a month and is now up to $5.50 a month.

I'd stick with Brother laser printers.

You aren't required to subscribe to the instant ink program. I just but them when needed and skip all that jazz.

Why?

If you reuse the HP cartridge chip, maybe. However it is becoming more and more difficult to use generic toner or ink on any HP printers. If you do pick it up, disable updates. I personally recommend Brother printers to family and friends.

Yeah, I'm looking at getting a Brother printer as well. Need full duplex on scanning and printing though.
