It really is about hand holding. The higher versions just ask more questions. If you don't need the questions and know where to put things, you don't need the higher versions. They use the same forms - just enter directly on the forms.
You do not have to enter directly on the forms. The guided interview for the return and for Schedule C does everything and covers all deductions from home office to vehicle expenses along with depreciation and others. I have done my taxes and have not once went directly to a form for anything

You do not need to enter anything directly in the forms. In fact the software will do all it can to stop you from doing that as that is where mistakes will likely be made. It will take you back to the built in guidance. Deluxe guidance handles it and steps you through and handles all input.

Everyone has to stop speculating. Telling people that they will have to enter directly on a form is not true and you are basically doing the upselling for them and it will have people wasting money.

I have a basis as I do not comment when I don't know like you do.I have a basis as I use Deluxe to do my business taxes and have been doing so for about thirty years. I know all the ins and outs of any and all all business deductions, write-offs and and credits as I take every one available and have been doing so for many years. I keep up and study any and all new deductions as they become available and can tell you they are all in Deluxe. I have basis as I can point you or anyone right to them in the guidance with screenshots as I have done in the past. I do this every year to save people money versus doing the upselling for Block. You have no basis and you make assumptions as you do not know and probably do not even know that Block Deluxe at one time stated for the self employed on the box and literature. They took that off the box the software remained exactly the same and does what it always has. Your no basis assumptions have you falling for marketing, my knowledge has me not doing that.As a SD member I have a basis I as take the time to know and be sure of what I say, If more people did that versus speculating and creating doubt and confusion where none is we would not have members guiding members to waste money on easily seen through stupid marketing gimmicks which kind of goes against the vibe and intent of the site.
Just because your very very very simple business profile works out each time so far as you think (albeit probably never audited anyway), you aren't the only business owner in this country. There are millions, most of them way more complex than yours. So to repeat: just stop. You're not the center of the universe.

I don't have a very simple business profile as I take every and all deductions I can and have done so and do so for multiple businesses.

I have vehicle and equipment depreciation, personal use of a vehicle, home office, Simplified Employer Pension, Self employed health insurance, multiple sources of income from cash to checks. That is the short list but it doesn't matter how complex the business books are as it is all passthrough income from self employment, sole proprietor or LLC all get done on a Schedule C and they are all the same in the eye of the IRS. Bookkeeping is important but is something different than filing taxes and you seem to be confusing the two

LLC, self employment and any passthrough income all work the same and get filed on a Schedule C. All the income and deductions for those type of businesses are handled in and by Deluxe.

Corporate taxes are another matter but even Premium doesn't handle them anyway.

Why talk and speculate so much when you seem to know nothing of what you are talking about? If you have some personal dislike for for me that is fine but is it really worthwhile and needed for you to try to try to get some other SD member to hand Block more than they need to so you feel like a big man or something?

Guys, just do FreeTaxUSA. Free federal, $15 state, and (imo) a much smoother experience. This is coming from someone who used H&R Block every year before.

Me too! I have used H&R for decades. Made the switch to freetaxusa this year and I won't be going back (I actually did my taxes twice - once on freetaxusa which I filed and once on H&R online without submitting to compare. Same result but one of them is free and the other is not)

Tell me how to do a nominee distribution without entering it directly on the forms

It appears you do that right in the guidance. Had not heard of or dealt with that but did find it.

Agree 100%. I did the same thing this week and got the same results with both. I have been using H&R Block software for almost 20 years and will never go back. Free Tax USA is great.

I felt the same way until I recently used freetaxusa for the first time. I've used Turbo Tax from 1996-2008 and stopped when they added those bogus fees that one year. I switched to HR Block and used them eversince (16 years). I was waiting for the usual Slick $20 HR Block w/ state price, but it never came this year. I finally tried Freetax and was surprised it can read your HR Block 2023 taxes as a PDF file. It also reads your W2 for 2024 if you have them in PDF as well. You will have to manually add any carry over losses from 2023 as it does not read that. To me freetax seems the same as Turbo Tax and HR Block, but without all the shiny bells and whistles. It gets straight to the point. I filed my 2024 fed taxes by free efile and filed my CA taxes by efile with only the 14.95 fee for state. Also, if you haven't done so, register with the IRS to access your "transcrpits" to access all your current and previous income tax records.
thanks, i'll try it out. I already know how much I owe so I just gotta see if I can get the numbers to match. thank you

For the people who got this from B&H - How soon do I get this download emailed? Is that sooner than that?

Have been using H&R for many years. This time I'm trying FTUSA. Started with my 84 year old Mom's return. Filled out Fed and MD State with no issues. MD has e-file so I went to the state site to do her taxes on there to compare. I could NOT get them to match as the People's Republic of MD e-file is d@mn confusing and have to go back and forth to the instructions to figure it out. However, FT-USA result consistently gave her a +$150 difference in her favor so I will go with that. I figure $150 - $15 fee is still a win. When I've used H&R I never compared with the state site so I just trusted them...no telling how much I may have lost (or made) due to differences.
Going to try with my daughter's which is simple and compare with AL free efile and see what happens. With FTUSA free Fed and the do state on the state website...if it works in your favor.
I hate this government income confiscation mess.

I'm sick of the pricing games they are playing this year with this Block software. I am switching to FreeTax. All these greedy companies can kiss my A$$. They just lost a regular customer to their greed. I hope many others do the same and switch. FreeTax is cheaper to Efile Fed and State and it works just as good.
