If you don't like the "free" games of the month you can hold off activating Meta+ for 3 months.

Games claimed for "free" through the subscription are only accessible with an active subscription.

$30 credit for those that use a friend link prior to device setup (it's a ban-able offense on SD to post/request such links but check Reddit)

ALL SALES ARE TARGETED meaning they could offer 50% off to one account and no sale for another.

When buying games check for developer links to save a flat 15-20% when no active sale on the game.

You're going to want a better strap and there's 2 or 3 great options for under $100. Some have hot swap batteries.

If yoi have glasses or a stigmatism there are snap on prescription lenses you for $20 on sites or $50 direct from Meta.

The max credit you can attain per year is $599 (anything $600+ is taxable)

The 4th gen headset is expected 2026/2027

There's free 3rd party software like OcularMigraine that improves visuals at the cost of battery life.

The games with PCVR need the Meta app for PC and many others recommend Virtual Desktop when on sale.

You do not need to link FB/IG to your account can use a normal email account.

If you mess up the $30 link you have 7 days to click a $30 link and factory reset your headset and go through initial setup to get it. Otherwise you need a good bit of personal info from the other person for support to process it. Sometimes there's a promo for $60 credit so check the app.

I'm sure there is info I forgot like there's no crossbuy and if you see it that means it gives you a Meta PC copy you need the app to play.

360 videos through the YouTube app are not true 4K and should be downloaded to view uncompressed.

Rechargeable batteries for the controllers are a must as they take 1 AA each.

Activate 2 factor authentication and set a pin for purchases to minimize accidents. There is a small return window for purchases but YMMV with support.

Those with GeForceNow can use it with the headset but the experience is not amazing yet.

Do NOT expose headset or lenses to direct or reflected sunlight (use a cover)

If you owned a Quest2 and purchase a Quest3 you may still be able to get the $30 activation credit.

Do NOT leave the headset charging for hours unsupervised or with 3rd party plugs/cables

Always read reviews as Most Recent and check online for in dept reviews.

I've accidentally punched my headset during a vr workout and thankfully it was fine but mind your surroundings.

Meta+ is not needed to use the headset (my 3 month trial just ran out)

edit: Only use a dry microfiber cloth to clean your lenses or risk removing the anti glare coating

edit2: Batman game extended through December 2026 (reddit says it can be redeemed with this offer but it's just a person on the internet)
I need this to drop $50 - $100 more and I'll be all over it!
I have the MQ3 512gb, and I leave it charged all the time and a battery pack charging while playing. Haven't had an issue.

AliExpress has a good bunch that lets you pick right and left eye. If you want them sooner than 2-4 weeks you can get them directly from Meta.

I went with AliExpress seller "Epeolatry Store" and think about getting another pair for the gf so she can play batman vr. If you have 2 different prescriptions it'll be around $30 on AliExpress

Note: even if you don't wear glasses/contacts these will also help protect the lenses (can get 0 prescription) however you'll be a little further away from the screen.

I will wait for a day when it will go $400 and/or comes with a gift card in near future
That's a bad strategy. The price only goes that low when Meta is preparing to launch an updated headset, and they want to clear out inventory. Usually about 6 months or so before a launch. Then you held off missing a year or so worth of fun to save $100 and you're getting a soon to be inferior model.

This system pretty decent when comparing to competitors?

There are no serious competitors. META dominates. Great value. Great quality. Great game library.

Someone asked about the difference between Quest 2 and Quest 3. The biggest differences are qualitative…

1. Dramatically better visual field, not resolution, but the clarity of the image through the lenses. Upgrade is worth it for this alone.

2. Color pass through. The quality is really poor, you will be disappointed, but it's still super useful to maintain spatial awareness while using the headset at times.

Other differences, like speed, resolution, etc are noticeable but secondary imho.

2 to 3s there's not much difference but 3 has color pass-through, pancake lenses, 512gb storage (really 430gb) and better processor (which you can see difference if you're willing use the mod for Ocular Migraine or QGO(quest games optimizer) at the cost of battery
There is a HUGE difference between the 2 and 3. I owned both, as well as a couple other PCVR headsets. The quest 2 was the lowest visual quality, even compared to a many year older samsung headset released in 2018.

The quest 3 has higher resolution panels
The quest 3 has much better pancake lens
The quest 3 supports AV1 encoding for wireless and for wired connections it supports about twice the bandwidth (960 mbps compared to 500 mbps) for noticeably less artifacts when connected to a PC.

For PCVR, the quest 3 is a best bang for your buck now. I replaced my HP Reverb G2 with one, the FOV and lens quality is some of the best on the market.

90 day return policy with Costco?
This is a good question. Looking through their return policy, it doesn't specify VR headsets under electronics/90-day return policy category, so it might be their more generous policy - return for any reason/any time policy like for Apple Airpods. Can anyone confirm?

The 3s has the lenses from the 2 but the processor from the 3, along with color pass though.

This is the normal price at Target but they only have 3 months of Meta+. Still, I care little about Meta+ and Target gives you 5% off through their card, plus they've had a few 10% offers in the last few months that could have been applied to this, although no offer at this moment that I am aware.

In case someone is on the fence we got our son a Quest 3 with free trial subscription for his 14th birthday. He played it for about a week and hasn't picked it up since (7 months now). We did not continue the sub due to this. He is on xbox almost daily. Our experience has been that these VR sets are still very much a gimmick and isolating to the user compared to all other gaming options available. I regret spending that much money on this item.

I would try it if I was ok with giving money to Meta. But I am not.
