I saw that as well. I've only had it less than a week so can't say long term. However one common complaint was ice maker didn't work, mine has worked properly from the start. Interestingly those reviews noted the door flap on the ice maker was broken, but mine doesn't have a door flap, so not sure if they updated the design or what. The fridge also cooled down very fast, like in an hour. I did enable the rapid cool feature initally then turned it off.

Note the installers did not remove the tape it ships with. I noticed there is tape covering the vents in the back of the fridge. Make sure you remove this before plugging it in. I caught it right after they plugged it in but worth noting to the installers.
Fair, but I've been tracking fridges for a while, and I can honestly say just about every major brand has a mix of good and bad reviews, at least for fridges < $2000. The bulk of the complaints I've seen seem to stem around the ice maker, which wouldn't impact your food.

This particular model, from a google search, seems to go for $1300 - $2400 (lowes). So at $700, seems worth giving it a shot. Couple that with Costcos free delivery/install/haul away and seems like a solid deal IMO. I was happy at $999, but $699 I'm thrilled.
$38 oem for 200 gallon filter life on Amazon. Generic doesn't seem much cheaper, $36 or $90 for 3 pack.

They also have this 20.5 cu ft garage ready model at $630. Garage ready is important if your garage falls below ~40f in the colder months. Fridges that aren't garage ready won't cycle the cooling when the garage drops below 40d or so, causing your freezer items to melt.

So, was this the best recent overall deal - apples to apples comparison?

If you don't mind side by sides, the whirlpool dropped to $500. But when it did it was mostly out of stock everywhere, so only folks who bought it 30d prior could price match. It is slightly smaller but counter depth and a better known brand, and $200 less. I personally had a side by side and didn't want one again which is why I opted for this one.

If you want it, get it now. Imagine this price with stupid 85% tariffs on top.

China made... same as GE (most models are now made in China - sane company). Glad there are tariffs maybe USA made appliances won't be garbage crap that needs replaced every 2-3 years!!

Does it come with a bypass plastic for the filter area or you have to call them to ship you a free one or pay for one?
Our GE had me calling customer support for them to ship the one for free to be able to put an inline filter.
Just to circle back on this, no filter bypass part available. See email exchange below. I guess on a positive note I emailed their customer support email [email protected] and got a reply back less than 2h later:

I just bought the MRF29D3AST from Costco. My house has a whole house Walter filtration and softening system. Do you make a filter bypass module for this fridge?

Question with the Costco "Extended Warranty " I heard and read a couple places that it's an only Trouble Shooting and Operational Related warranty and that repair cost are the consumer responsibility?

That is not correct:
https://customerservice.costco.co...roducts%3F

In the case of this fridge, it comes with a 2 year warranty anyway. Page 28:

Costco's 3 year addon warranties (for 5y total) are handled by Allstate.

Anyone who has/got this fridge. Question - on mine, one of the shelves on the right in the fridge appears to be 2 pieces, theres clearly a seam/frame ~1/2 way into the shelf. I assume this shelf can collapse somehow but I feel dumb because I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do it and the manual doesn't mention anything about it. Does this shelf collapse and if so how? I don't want to man handle it and break something.

I saw somewhere I think you can slide the front piece in so you can put tall bottles or whatever that require the extra height space.

Unfortunately refrigerator problems are frequent now with the new refrigerants 290 and 600a ( propane and butane). They are still working the bugs out and Chinese built isn't like American built. I work in refrigeration.

They are probably exactly what they intend to be, profitable, within any individual market. Their air conditioners and dehumidifiers are top of the line.

They had to take the bottom drawer and doors off the fridge, take off two doors in my hallway (faster to knock the pins out than dismount the handles), and I had to unmount my thermostat to get it into my kitchen. But we made it happen. 😂

Side note. Make sure the installers give you the full install kit to include the door leveling rings and door handle removal allen key. I noticed it in the manual last night and I didn't get mine, but luckily my doors are level. I emailed Midea to see if they would send some in case I need it in the future and they are on back order until July. So when installed make sure the doors are level and/or ask for the leveling rings to be installed or provided to you if you want to level it yourself or may need them in the future (like if you move the fridge.)

The installers did leave me the door handle removal allen key though. And as I noted before remove the tape covering the vents inside. It's somewhat camaflauged given the interior is white and so is the tape.
