They have lots of 2 sets of 8x4x1 for around $70 to $75 (regular price) so I don't think $35 for one is a good deal.

I think I read in hot areas the sun makes the metal hot and cooks the vegetable bed. So that doesn't sound good but it may be wonder if you put a greenhouse enclosure over it maybe that would be good for tomatoes!?! I am asking because I like tomatoes and we've been gardening.

I'm zone 7b and I have one like this. Never cooked my plants. Does keep the soil a little warmer making it easier to plant certain plants and seeds earlier.

Price went up from $50 when I first clicked on it, to $70 after clicking on it again 30 minutes later.

being above ground means it'll defrost earlier and freeze earlier, since it doesn't have the insulation effect of the rest of the soil around it.

However, the sun will NOT heat up any considerable depth, maybe 1" past the reflective, steel outside.

I have gotten a taller one on sale before, but they are generally a lot more expensive. The one I got had the Prop 65 warning, but when I called the company they would not provide any more information about why it had the warning. I doubt it's lead in the paint. Maybe the zinc in the galvanizing? But back to your question, you'll pay a lot more for that exta 6-8 inches. I use that one for carrots because I can guarantee deeper soil without rocks and stuff that messes them up.
