walmart has their own brand of this slightly cheaper every day. But aside from an exact size wrench filter cap, I like the 3 pronged wrench that adjusts down to the actual size of the filter and pops onto a socket extension rod to reach tight spots with less leverage needed. It will probably crush it a little so only use on filters you are throwing away.
This (style, not necessarily this exact brand..) works on filters in spaces where you can barely even get one hand onto the filter though. You definitely don't work on much and have never used any sort of tool like this. That's more than apparent.

We have 5 skid loaders where this style is the first thing to grab because it's not even worth trying to pull them off by hand. Oiled gasket, only ever hand tightened, it doesn't matter. The filters always end up with a film of oil/grease on them or heat cycle enough they get to be too tight anyways. And the orientation they're in makes this sort of tool perfect, and I've dealt with more than enough other machines where this is usually the first style filter wrench I'll grab. Overall the best on lots of larger filters on large equipment as well.

If I have that much space to use this tool, I might as well use my hands.

I've been using this style of tool for years.....it's hands down my favorite of all the filter tool options. It just gets the job done and even though it's fairly large, you can always work it in to tight spaces as it just has so much grip once you clamp it on. As a poster a little ways up noted, you should only be using these to REMOVE the filter......never put a filter on with a wrench....

Really, where do they keep their teeth otherwise?

I see two different kinds of the 3 pronged wrench you mentioned. Can you share which one you used?

I use the 2nd one you listed. It uses a 3/8 socket and works on 63.5 - 98mm filters, which is probably good for most common cars. The other one looks like it will work with slightly larger filters if you need that and 1/2 or 3/8 sockets.

If the filter is on tight, these may dig into and puncture it as it turns to loosen so don't use if you are planning to re-install the filter for some reason.
