The last oil change in January @8,000 miles on M1 ESP Euro 5w30; I decided to send in a sample to SPEEDiagnostix [speediagnostix.com] for analysis. It was so surprising bad that Lake Speed Jr himself called me directly to discuss the report and derive a plan going forward.
The quote from the report states: "Viscosity and Oxidation are both elevated, which indicates the additive package has been depleted " And that was from a fresh 5qt bottle (purchased at WM) with no noticeable residue at the bottom when emptied (meaning no additive separation from sitting too long on the shelf or dropping below freezing while in storage).
We decided to continue with the M1 ESP one more time as a control study but, this time try retesting @4,000 to see how it is doing. To take the study a step further I took it upon myself to send in another sample on the fresh oil change, with only 100 miles of driving to let it mix with the residual in the crankcase, to get a baseline to compare to for next 4k.
Regardless of the results, I will never be going over a 5k oil change interval again. [That factory VW/AUDI 10,000 OCI is BUNK!!!] And I am probable going to give Valvoline's Euro FS 5w30 XL-III [valvolineglobal.com] a try next.
My goal here is to make this thread more educational than usual and not just about saving $'s on the oil you buy but, maybe bigger $$$'s in savings over time. I want to encourage you to go back through it and see some of the other links and info shared.
I have been following Lake Speed Jr (The Motor Oil Geek [youtube.com]) for some real scientific data to reference. His information is coming as a Lubrication Specialist (Tribologist).
His channel is far more valuable and understandable than other motor oil sites and forums that are just mostly full of confusing subjective opinion more than science.
Maybe introduce yourself to his videos by starting here with Questions #3 and #2

Don't just have an opinion about the oil you choose.
Let the chemistry and application dictate what oil you choose.
