The HM additives expand the seals, which, by altering their intended composition, harms them. They'll fail earlier than otherwise.

A2, I accidentally link the incorrect video original. Even though the Additives one is a good, it was supposed to be the one from LSJ about the Old SN & New SP M1 Euro 0w40.
Here is that link: Oil Problem? When You Shouldn't Use MOBIL1 0W-40!

Good deal if you used the PayPal deal to buy the $10 GC. Effectively making this $15. Costco deal still beats this but can't go wrong with Mobil 1 products.

I'm only sharing what a Tribologist is saying that the chemistry is doing inside that bottle over time.
If they are stored where they can go below freezing seems to be the big factor.
I once purchased a 5qt of Pennzoil Platinum from WM and it had a greenish snot-like sediment. I emailed Penz and they did there best to assure me that that was normal for oil when it sits on a self… After this video from Lake; I think we know that that was a lie.

I was using the best Castrol 505 & 507 oils in my Audis, even the new bottles had a dark slime at the bottom. I shake the bottle to mix it, not so hard that I aerate the oil and then used it. Never had a problem. I get that they might not be as good as new but they are not going in the garbage or the recycler. I'm not talking about oils that look as dark, or smell like the ones in the video. It's good to know some of the info like the foam disappearing, maybe just use them in a 50/50 ration with new oil, or use an aftermarket product to restore the additive package. The older Mag1 oil bottles (that I still have and look the same as when they were new), were clear and they had a dark slime at the bottom even when brand new, I would suspect that if all the bottles were clear you would see some kind of sediment there. Some of the oils being sold, especially online could be 5 years old or older already. So if I bought oil in 2020, especially if it was in stock or on the shelf for a while, I should just get rid of it? Not happening for me...

This seems to be about the normal price. I'm pretty sure I bought the 3 pack, from Walmart for like $68.

I do plan to switch to PP when it's gone tho, I'm just not a huge mobil 1 fan and I think the PP is actually better. I'm also tempted to switch to a 0w20 if PUP is priced right, can be had cheaper than this.

What is PP? Why do use vague acronyms assuming everyone knows what they are!

There's only so many oils that come in a 0w16.

PP is Pennzoil Platinum,
PUP is Pennzoil Ultra Platinum.
