If they are stored where they can go below freezing seems to be the big factor.
I once purchased a 5qt of Pennzoil Platinum from WM and it had a greenish snot-like sediment. I emailed Penz and they did there best to assure me that that was normal for oil when it sits on a self… After this video from Lake; I think we know that that was a lie.

I do plan to switch to PP when it's gone tho, I'm just not a huge mobil 1 fan and I think the PP is actually better. I'm also tempted to switch to a 0w20 if PUP is priced right, can be had cheaper than this.
PP is Pennzoil Platinum,
