These are unscented, unlike some others.
They do leave some sticky residue on your fingers if you touch the glue.
You can cut each trap into 4 smaller pads. This is what I do.

If you have brown recluse spiders, you'd want to put these in high traffic areas to catch them, especially if you have children. Recluse spiders are basically immune to pesticides, as they don't drag their thoraxes on the ground like other bugs. For other spiders that aren't dangerous, like common house spiders, I agree with you. Those are beneficial, and I leave them be. Luckily I don't live in a part of the country that has recluse or black widow spiders, but plenty of people do, and brown recluse infestations are common in those areas.
Where exactly do you even place these then if say any spiders you have are already in the ceiling or high up on the walls?
Now if you have ants and ceilings, do these work? Or you need specific terro traps for ants? The thing is I read it does get rid of ants but isn't the issue here going to be the mess that you have to clean up? Like when the ants are done or they bring it to their colony and the rest of the ants are done, where do you find out the ants are when you go and clean the mess up since it takes a while for the ants to be done? Unless you put it on a flat surface, wouldn't it be hard for ants to touch these terro traps? Like imagine you have a ton of ants and spiders in the ceiling or near the top of the wall, you can't put the trap there right? I'm talking about ant traps that you have to put on a flat surface?
I was bitten by a black widow spider a few years ago.
I was sick for 8 days.
Violent vertigo, fever and chills.
Vomiting. I can't remember ever being that sick before.
I always have bad reactions to spider bites from regular house spiders.
This was 100 times worse.

Cooking oil will release the glue
Yeah, same as the oil in the peanut butter. I've just always grabbed PNB for gum stuck in the hair, etc. So, it came to mind first.

I just got one in my bathroom this morning. Usually find a few each year
Not on a boat though. Such a pain. Wonder if this will work to keep on a pontoon that gets covered.
